Sewing Blah-g

Hoop skirt is as done as it's going to be. I don't hate it anymore. I do have ideas for improving it, but I don't have the time to pull off the casing once again. I think I need to actually wear it before I make any more changes; I'm not sure how it should "feel" and it may turn out to be okay or it may need some dramatic retooling. Hard to tell. I'm sure that after I've worn it for 12 hrs next weekend I'll have some concrete opinions. I may corner some of the more Guru-ish Elizabethan pros and ask them for their thoughts and experiences.

Skirt is assembled. Needs hem to be marked and then turned. Trim to be attached. Needs closure at waist. (Needs a lot still.)

Bodice is assembled. Cuffs need to be turned. closures and trim need to be added. (seems more done than skrit)

Trim has been aquired.

Brought bodice to work so I can attach trim at lunch. which is right about now. heh!

Making a linen shirt to go under all this to protect the garment from body oils. That's not really started yet. Should take more than a few hours, so I'm not worried about this.

Hat is more than half-way done. Still need feathers. Hmm. Where does one get feathers? Do I have time? Do I have money? These questions and more will have to be answered in next weeks episode of "Tales from the Sewing Crypt - garments that wouldn't die"

This begs the question ... what in the world have I finished?

A corset I like. Actually, it's got some nifty little things worked into it and I like it quite a bit.

Will I finish? Hmmm. we'll see.

I'd be doing the same except my best friend is making the Ropa that I have to wear all this stuff under. It would be pretty shabby of me to not finish it ... although it suddenly occurs to me ... a corest, a hoop skirt, and false sleeves under the ropa might squeak me through 12th Night .... hmm.

I shall have to ponder this. Indeed, I shall.

Is the ropa closed? If so, you can cheat and, instead of wearing a corset, you can wear a sports bra (if you can wear the kind that flatten you out). Works for us small-chested folk ;-) )

Clever idea! I will have to see this weekend.

It has been an interesting adventure in costuming. I'm going to try and pick your brain next time I see you since this really is your area of expertise.

Heh. Once again, I'll either be wearing leftovers or somebody else's clothes. Come to think about it, unless I wear a kirtle (for which I've never made sleeves), even my leftovers will be *made* by someone else!!

Such is life! Next year I'll wow 'em. ;-)

Well, the LBK made the Persian I'll be wearing for me, so I guess it's the best of both worlds. :-> No sewing, AND somebody made something for me!

All I really need to do is find the bling Julie made me and figure out how to attach it to my head. :->
