Looking for Open water and Wet-suit aid

Looking for friend who knows how to swim in open water, has access to open water, and can help me be safe on a wet-suited journey into open water. Soon-ish - like by Feb 12.

I'll rent my own wet-suit.

Willing to drive 2-3 hrs (from Concord)

I think I might be your woman. Are you looking for lake or ocean?

Dood... Of course you have to pick a date when I will be on a cruise in Mexico. IDEA certified myself... Diving in La Pas in Feburary (one of the top 5 places in the world to dive, evidently).

I'm a member of the South End Rowing Club. Most of the club members are swimmers, rather than rowers. I'm a rower. We also have handball. Anyway, it is at Aquatic Park (right in front of Ghiradelli Square), so the swimmers go in the Bay. However, the use of wetsuits is discouraged by the swimmers at the club. There is a day use fee for non-members if you want to use the locker room to change and the sauna to warm up afterwards. Let me know if you want to come and see the facilities some time.

This is good to know. Thanks!

no wet suit? wow! Any idea why it's discouraged? is this a "mightier than thou" or will you get sucked under by bay mud?
