Triathlons with Friends

This is an encouragement post to friends.

I mailed in my USAT (USA Triathlon org) membership yesterday. As soon as I get confirmation and an ID, I'm registering for the Olympic Tri at Pacific Grove (Sept) and Tri-Girl-Tri (October 11).

I will also probably do one of the following: Tri-for-fun #2 (July 17-ish, Livermore) or the Tri in Santa Cruz (August 10) or the Tri in Bear Valley (August 31). I'm leaning towards the Tri-for-fun since it's in Livermore and requires less gasoline and logistics and my kids could come.

Where is the encouragement part?

The September and October events have relays. A team of three, where each member does a different leg, could tackle a triathlon. I'm not sure if the other ones have relays or not (i did not look closely), but they are shorter and when I figure out which one works best for calendaring, I'd be happy to encourage someone by doing it with them ... yes, swim, bike and run along side of you (unless you zip off into the sunset and leave me in your dust, to which I say, "Ride like the Wind, Bullseye!" and cheer you onwards). That's one piece of encouragement.

To that end, I'm going to follow up with previous offers I got for open-water swimming so that I can get used to splashing around in my wet suit. I'd be more than happy to include others in the "what, when, where" if they are interested in splashing with me. One of the things I decided I need to practice is siting my destination while swimming. (Swim practice will be aimed specifically at avoiding shark-infested waters). I'd also be happy to try and coordinate some group bike rides and/or runs. Summer is here and it's the perfect time for this stuff (crammed around all that work and SCA stuff.. I know. Tough to squeeze it in.)

I'm also going to look into getting a removable bike-rack for my car, so if you live near me and would go, but can't because you can't transport your bike, we can work something out.

So there it is. Think about it. As I stick stuff in my calendar, I'll post here.

Not in the shape for it in any way this year...perhaps next year.

Physically not currently capable, but I'd love to be kept in the open-swim loop. Not that I'm planning a tri--I just like swimming in open water. Reminds me of my childhood summers at the Lake. :-)

I'm not up for a tri, but I can help with the destination siting when you swim. My swimming instructor's badge is a trifle dusty, though I remember that technique very clearly.

As mentioned I'm in. Kicked off training today.

I'll have to cheer from a distance, as usual. I can't run, bike, or swim. (Arthritis in knees, asthma.) OK, I could probably swim.

I don't do competetive sports, but I'll cheer you on.

Go You!!!
