Interesting warning from web page... hail? snow? pre-dawn hours? cows?
I'm intrigued. (pasted warning below) I can't figure out if you just register or have to win a qualifying race. (You have to qualify for the Hawaiian Iron man and for Escape from Alcatraz.) F is going to kill me if I sign up for this and then hurtle off an edge of Ebbets pass. He may get super cranky if I register at all if it seems dangerous. I need to survive my shark-athlon in September first, but this. looks. interesting.

Ride single-file
Control speed on descents
Be prepared for all weather (cold, heat, wind, rain, hail, and snow)
Carry proper gear (tubes, pump, sunscreen, food)
Use proper lighting if starting before daylight
Approved helmets are always required
Earphones are prohibited (riders can be cited by local law enforcement agencies)
Carry an extra layer of clothing at all times
Aerobars or child carriers prohibited
While we have tried to outline the necessary information for you to have a safe ride, please remember that this event can be dangerous! Be careful! Watch out for mud, rocks, cows, cattle guards, deer, other riders and other hazards. Your safety is your responsibility. You ride at your own risk!

Registration is closed this year. I need to figure out when 2009 reg opens. So it might be a matter of missing 2009 because I miss the short reg window OR I need to qualify.
But assuming I get it... I forsee trips up to Bear Valley to train next spring as soon as the snow melts.

Danger: I just read a blog by one rider. She comments about the airlift out for someone who went off an edge on the down-hill ride.
