"Prepare to RUE!"

Saturday was awesome.

1. Trunk Sale... some most excellent ladies came, tried stuff on, and gave my pieces new homes. I have to say, watching [livejournal.com profile] joycebre skip by in my Italian boy clothes, belting out with glee, "I look so CUTE!", made me freeze. She looked TOTALLY cute. I actually cried out, "I want my clothes back." But not really - I'd have to put on 30 lbs. But there was that moment of internal angst. But she looked totally cute; better than me. Anyway, most of it left to appreciative folks. [profile] ldyanna looks like she's got a whole new wardrobe and [livejournal.com profile] ppfuf looks like my kirtle was made for her.

2. Trunk Sale: Left overs. I still have my card player and my Lorenzo Lotto. I may gut and remake the card-player. Now that it's not part of a herd of stuff that doesn't fit, I may have the bandwidth to tackle it. Needs a black kirtle... hmm...

3. Two words WE love: GAME DAY!
Yesterday was also board game day.

Board games everywhere. And adult-sized kids leaning over, rolling dice, trading insults and trying to outwit each other. Plus food... Really fun batch of folks.

We had up to 4 groups playing games at one point, all hooting and hollering at each other. Every version of Settlers of Catan that we own was out between 7pm and 10 pm; the basic set, the travel set, and the funky 3-D set. One guest commented, "You should have told us to bring ours!" How would I know it would be a Catan-fest? I hear [personal profile] hrj and [livejournal.com profile] d_salie romped all over unsuspecting folks early in the day, but [profile] d_salie did a great job of helping newcomers learn Puerto Rico, so it wasn't all tough love.

4. Two other words we love: JUMP HOUSE!!!

We had a jump house. It was sorta for the kids (ours and guests), but I had a blast in it. I think the Jump house idea is a keeper for all game days whether or not there are any kids. NO BODY loses in the jump house. only 3 rules:

1. no shoes
2. no silly string (that's actually in the contract)
3. no adult beverages

Turns out the jumpie owner is doing fundraising for Leukemia, too. He's running a marathon and needs to raise money. So I donated. woot woot.

"Pass the dice, Loser"
I got to finish one game of Catan and (I'm told) we were pretty loud. Unlike the earlier "polite" game I played (and dropped out of - gave my seat to [personal profile] klwilliams), the evening game had me, Jeff, Victor and Tami around a card table. Vic and Tami are siblings, Jeff is my bro, and we've all known each other for 18 years or more. There are no boundaries when it comes to the insults and no quarter is given on the game board. I think Jeff started the insults (at me, of course), I responded in kind, and it went downhill from there. It was hysterical - I don't know how many times we zapped each other mid-drink and made someone choke. Vic actually won (gasp!), but Jeff came in last and we were pretty merciless.

I thought I was done for the eve when David came up and said he couldn't possibly go home until he'd played at least one game w/ me. David is married to a lovely SCA Laurel, but he doesn't really attend SCA events; we meet over war-torn board games. He has the sweetest disposition of anyone I know. How could I deny him? a sweet friend with innocense all over his face? (..yeah... wait for it!)

Out came "Gloom". Gloom is a card game with Edward Gorey art. The person who has had the worst day gets to go first and you try to kill off your own guys with misery. It can be a very funny card game if you put the time into the story-telling aspect, which we always do. And... it lends itself too... backstabbing!

David spent the bulk of the game slamming me. So did Jeff. So did [livejournal.com profile] adalberon. So did Vic. Yeah.. feel the love. I kept warning them that if they didn't keep [livejournal.com profile] adalberon down, [livejournal.com profile] adalberon would win. There was some back and forth between them, but everytime I looked like I might make a tinsy bit of headway, they slammed me. It wasn't about beating me, it was about crushing me according to David. Apparently I have inspired his ire from past games. He and I were so furiously exchanging shots and insults and threats.. I had him choking when I was yelling, "You will rue that! Prepare to RUE!"

David tells me you can't use the word "rue" like that. I disagree.

Apparently "someone" told him about how I made up "drunkery" at A&S a few years ago. (The line was, "There is NO drunkery in this camp," mid-party admist the empty saki and rum bottles. Irony) Hey! I really thought "drukery" was a word! yeah yeah yeah... I'm an engineer, not a "word" person. But my constant abuse of language had him rolling with laughter and choking. Then Jeff, in a masterful stroke, won the game. Even [livejournal.com profile] adalberon blinked.

So at 11:30-ish the last of the guests pulled out. I discovered that kitchen fairy sorted out my kitchen for me so it's not a hazmat zone, just a mild disaster. (yay! I love the apprentice!)

The three amigos (Jeff, Vic and I) retreated to hot tub while F and kids watched Avatar finale. Hot tub good... no body loses in the hot tub, either! Unfortunately, I had to retreat after 15 minutes. I was falling asleep and had to quit so that I didn't drown. You're never sure how much drowning your family will let you do BEFORE they rescue you .. and Jeff and Vic ARE that kind of funny. Which is assuming they aren't too busy talking about comic books to notice.

The trunk sale was great! My thanks to you for parting with your gorgeous things - the kingdom will be much better dressed. Why not make a new set of boy clothes, that will show off your awesome cuteness? Gianni could use a few guys to hang out with. (I've forgotten your boy name)
Games was muy fun, I wish we could have stayed longer.

That was an awesome day. I'm sorry I left and miss the hot tub. I want to play Gloom with you sometime; it sounds like a blast.

Sounds like you had a funtabulous weekend!!

Was quiet here as Scott worked. I got bitten by the cleaning bug and almost have the kitchen up to par. Will finish that tomorrow. We had a T Storm that cooled things off, hurray! Next Saturday is going to be game day for us. Scott and his friends have been gaming in one form or other since 1985 and have known each other since grade school! I'm one of the newer additions but they accepted me into the fold not long after I arrived. I'm looking forward to our day of D&D 4th addition and fun with the friends :) We'll cook a meal to share together and just have some fun! And it's about 4 weeks until Gen Con, can't wait!!

Based on my knowledge of the word, I believe you CAN use "rue" that way.

beanolc?

First usage, oui. Second, not quite; it's a transitive verb so it needs an object.

"Prepare to rue my kicking of your ass!" would work, as ... my kicking of your ass is technically the direct object of that sentence.

(sorry for the del comment... hit return too quickly.)
