Trudging along aka
My Ropa Diary ...
Truthfully, someone else is making the Ropa for me. I'm making the rest of the outfit: corset, hoop, skirt, doublet, sleeves, smock, hat, etc.
I expect this will bore all except the hard-core tailors. Well, it will probably bore them, too.
Still no inspired visions ... my muse must be on holiday. Well, at least one of us is. Maybe she/he will bring me back something really cool.
Even though I don't think we're going to the Boar Hunt, I'm pushing myself to finish the red ensemble, which is a colossal act of self-discipline. I don't do too well when I am not burning up with inspiration and vision. Last night I sewed the sleeves - they still need to be lined. I assemebled the doublet. I'm not entirely sure about it - the cut of the collar is based on Alcega's patterns and it's a new one to me. The back halves and the back of the collar are cut as one - no seam adjoining them (well, just a center back seam holding the two halves together). New is always scary. But change is good, right? Heh!
I still wish I had eyes in the back of my head, but it seems to fit well, which is a nice thing. And the fabric likes the project it's been assigned to, which is good. I've always been sensitive to my fibers and tried to pay close attention to what they are saying. Sometimes I've even dream about my fabrics and what they want to become. It's what inspired "threadwalker".
Doublet - I need to pull out the serger. I was going to hand-finsih the seams, but the brocade is fraying too fast, so I'm going to press them flat and then run them through the serger. (Oh - excuse me "overlocking" machine. Serger is a brand name ... ) If only I had some singing mice and birds to help me. Cin'erella!
I did have two little helpers who were using red glitter glue at my sewing table last night while I was sewing. I wonder if I will end up having any sparkly bits on the outfit. No worries even if I do. They like to be with me, which is a good thing, and they like to be creative, which is something I'm nurturing in them. What's a little glitter glue to that? hahaha!
Tonight I'd like to do the seam finishing, finish assembling the sleeves, set the sleeves in, and attach the collar lining. .... Mom is calling after 9pm, so my list might be a bit ambitious between kiddie bed time and mommie phone call. However, since I don't really have a deadline I guess that's okay.
Time Check: 8pm and just leaving work. Prospect of sewing ... not good. Prospect of going to bed early is more likely.

no subject
I'm getting pink sparklies all over everything - work clothes, Wootie's stuff...
I'm glad the kids are being good about Mommy's projects. I'm sure you can remember some things we've seen over the years with other people trying to do things around their kids.
A Part, not Apart
Yes, the negative role models have been rife in the past. Fortunately, I've had some very good role models, too. I was full of insecurity over this parenting thing when we first started down this path. However, I took a parenting class 2 years ago and it was very reaffirming that we're on the right track. It's so cool to hear an "expert" tell me that I need to be doing the things I'm already doing. As a reality check to "experts", it helps that most people who aren't out-right allergic to kids actually like ours.
I try to incorporate the kids in whatever I'm doing because during the week I only get a few hours a day with them. I like to make that time count so it's rare that I actually work on a project while they are awake; unless they are absorbed in an art project, my absorbtion takes too much attention away from them. It doesn't mean it's all play-doh and TV - they help me make dinner, do laundry, load/unload the dishwasher, etc. Tonight we will play the matching game, which is what I call matching socks in the clean laundry pile. (hahaha!)
The are a part of my life, not apart from my life.
