wahhhh!

I'm a whiner
My hands have boo boos and they sting like a bitch! And they keep cracking open and weeping and showing raw flesh. I couldn't open my 20 oz bottle of diet coke. I can't grip my bottle w/o cracking the skin open. sniffle. I can't put a pony tail in my hair wihtout aggravating both hands. HOw the fuck am I supposed to put 2 pairs of gloves on these? argh.

Stop getting all "finger wagging at me". I hate that internal voice that sounds like my mom's voice.

Fine, it's my fault I have the busted blisters.

Happy fucking MOnday! I'll find the fucking work gloves next time.

(Yes, I will so swear. don't shake your imaginary finger at me! I have boo boos and I'm cranky. I will so swear! gah!)

Neosporin will help a little. But if you can (post-clean room) go to the drugstore and look for a thick non-stinging lanolin-based balm. (I wish I could remember a brand name for you.) To cover, use nonstick gauze pads and medical or athletic tape wrapped all the way around your hand to keep the gauze in place.

Do this for about 2-3 days, then you'll need to uncover them to let them dry out to finish healing. By then, the balms will have done their job and the pain will be lots less.

Serious gymnasts spend their careers with hands that look just like yours do now. Bleeding from the palms is not considered an excuse not to continue doing bar workouts each day. So I learned lots of fun tricks for dealing. :p

omg! that's insane... oh, wait. gymnasts are insane...

thanks for the tips. I was just percolating and wondering how I was going to lift weights tonight. I have one on each hand in the soft flesh between thumb and forefinger and bigger than dimes. My 2hrs in the clean room which includes multiple dousings of antiseptics and then rubber gloves have left them raw and angry looking.

now adding that to my sanity shopping trip... you know - they use the same stuff for nursing mothers who's nipples get raw and cracked. I used to have tons of free samples, which have all been tossed as part of my simplification plan. ah well.

Hmmm. I don't think I'll be able to pound tent stakes this weekend. Or do dishes - I'm pretty sure soaking my exposed flesh in grimey water will open me to a risk of infection. lol.

Hahahahah - that's true - you shouldn't risk it (re: tent stakes and dishes). :)

Well, you likely won't need to pound any stakes in the sand... and sounds like you have a damn good reason to get out of KP. Probably shouldn't be doing any cooking or food prep, either -- risk of infection and all that. ;-p

Allergies...

On the neosporin, it has a sulfur additive in it... so if you are allergic to something, check ingredients before applying... just a suggestion from one who has had a bad experience.

FWIW, my doc recommends ploysporin rather than neosporin for that reason.

er, that's POLYsporin.

Actually, you honestly shouldn't be soaking your hands in dirty water until they heal. Rips (that's what gymnasts call them) are prone to cracking and bleeding while going through the healing process. If your rips crack, and you wash dishes in a camp setting, you could end up with an infection. :p

After the first day or two, you'll want to use the lanolin over the *sporin, unless you get a crack.

lol...yes, gymnasts are insane. I spent 8 years with those spots, alternating with huge callouses, in the spot you've got yours, on the other side of both palms, and at the base of each finger. I couldn't run my hands over certain kinds of fabric for fear of snagging the fibers.
