We had parent-teacher conference at 7am today. We got to hear that N is on track, the teacher has no concerns what-so-ever about him passing the proficiency exams at the end of the year. (yay - all the work at home is paying off). She showed us the booklets that they have to read to near-perfection in order to demonstrate competence. His progress is awesome. ANd where he's expected to be in June seems like yet another huge jump, but the teacher thinks we're on track.

And... (drum roll) he is a very kind, polite, and considerate kid in class. He works very well in teams and when paired with someone "less capable" than he is, he is helpful and kind and gentle. Given how thoughtlessly cruel kids are at this age, the teacher is truly impressed and wanted to make sure we knew. He volunteers to help out all the time, too.

So: good academics and good behaviour. Woot woot. We are going to come up with a list of fun family activities for him to choose from and then do it to celebrate.

My kudos: Kids don't do homework in a void and don't read (at this age) in a void. I have been busting my tooshie to do homework with him. It's been a lot of work and a source of stress in terms of "am I doing enough" and "Oh my god, I'm exhausted". Nicholas' feedback is also my feedback. And my devoted cheering section snuggled me and said that my hard work is paying off.

Go Team!

I have had the biggest smile plastered to my face all day. I'm so proud of him!
