2011 is going to fucking rock. I am Athena and my army is massing.

My mom is still a crazy bitch. Why do I let myself believe her? Because, to quote one wise friend, I keep hoping she'll become the mother I wish she were. Whatever, right? So she bailed on me in a key crisis moment. I cried. I gnashed my teeth. I felt my world fall in on me. Then I stood up, wiped my face, fixed my make-up and made a plan. I'm Athena, my army is massing..

I am rendesvousing in Las Vegas with my sister for my birthday. I have a plane ticket. I am so freaking excited, I feel like my chest is going to burst.

VEGAS BABY! FTW!

By the time I go to bed tonight (midnight-ish) I should have the starts of my fabric-sale webbed. I had so many boxes in the garage, I couldn't bring it all in the house. So I'm starting with one-box at a time. You want some fabric? Shoot me a message. I'm dumping it as fast as I can starting this weekend. Got nothing to do on New Years Day? Come paw through my fabric.

We are home from the Happiest Place on Earth.

The best thing about being home?

No crowds. Your own bed. More than one bathroom. A separate room for the TV and the kids who snore. LOL. But I already miss the park.

P.S. 2009 was an interesting year. I had my own challenges, which in someways I'm still learning to work through. But I think that's the point of life; you're never done learning about yourself or learning how to survive. And I really believe that happiness is something we have inside us and not something we can get from others or find in an object. I don't think I have any serious regrets from 2009 and I am filled with optimism for 2010.

Last night we got home to a house that's still somewhat trashed from our X-mas celebrations and I have a 12th night ensemble to finish, so pardon me if I borrow Mickey's magic mop n bucket while I also marshal the mice and the birds out to the (frigid) sewing workshop to "... whistle as we work..."

I have a new PC. Yay! And now it has virus protection. Double Yay! So I can get on-line. Woot woot.

Christmas has been great.

I ran 6 miles on Wednesday. yay.

I wrapped almost all the gifts before X-mas eve. (As opposed to last year, where we were tipsy and some of our tipsy friends tried to help us wrap after the X-mas eve party.)

I ended up serving a traditional family dish my inlaws hadn't had in 10 years or more. Why? Because the recipe was lost and Santos Meat/Sausage plant in San Leandro was shut down in the late 90's (when the owner shot and killed meat inspectors). However, in an unlikely series of events I acquired the family marinade recipe from someone outside the Robello half a few years ago, didn't realize what it was, and randomly decided to serve it. The Robello's were pleased.

My mom came over X-mas eve on schedule. Which means she promised to be here by noon on X-mas eve and didn't show up until 4pm. And that was okay because when I called her at noon I had her pack a punch bowl, which she has now given to me. yay.

X-mas eve was nice. Some friends have moved away but we had some new faces. It was warm and cozy and yummy. We didn't have a Santa this year; normally I kidnap a male guest, ply him with alcohol and then convince him to wear the suit. This year all the male guests were long time family friends, which wouldn't have fooled anyone. Miss E has become suspiscious whereas Super N seems to take the Santa at face value. So I'm not sure where we'll go with this in the future.

X-mas day was low key. Just us and my mom. No cooking, although I cleaned the kitchen in shifts since it was fairly overwhelming. The kids spent the day playing with Legos and Liv dolls; we watched girl movies and between dishes I did embroidery. In the afternoon my mom shooed us out of the house and we went to see "Sherlock Holmes". It was very enjoyable and it was nice to get out. We split a hot dog and laughed at how silly that was since the day before I'd been juggling so much food in the kitchen. It was just nice to be together without being in charge of anything or anyone for a few hours.

Boxing Day looked a lot like Christmas Day. I was going to take the moms out to a movie, but Mom R is sick and I was feeling cruddy. So Mom S and I dug in and watched the Sherlock Holmes marathon on the Turner channel. The kids played. I emptied out all my leftovers and produce from my fridge and sent them home with my mom because we're going to be gone for a whole week. And now we are packing.

Packing? Gone for a week? Did you make it this far in my boring post? The kids think we are going to the familiy cabin in the mountains for the next few days. We are not. We are going to the happiest place on earth. Yay! Disneyland. I still need to pack my own stuff, but my laundry is in the dryer. F's master scheme is to get up at 4am, load the car and hit the road. I'm not sure how far he thinks we'll get before the kids figure it out; they are fairly observant and I've been taking them to the cabin for years. I'm skeptical about his schedule, too. Normally when his plan involves getting up that early I wake up at 4 and spend the next hour or 2 trying to get him to wake up. Since it's midnight right now and he's still watching TV, I would not place money on it. Call me the Doubting Wife, but up at 4am? Thinking the kids will believe the mountain destination when the pine trees and high elevation never show up? Regardless, we'll have a ton of fun. And I just turned up my camera, which has been AWOL for a few weeks.

Pretty darn Happy!

One week, 14 hours in the car with two little kids, 10 peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and 5 days of park hopping later ... I can't wait to do it again!

This morning the Littlest was confused - "we going Mickey Mouse House today? We going Di-nee-wand?" After a week of Disney, she thinks everyday should be spent stalking princesses, riding flying pirate boats, and watching bugs dance.

Highlights:

I love the gas-saving Prius, but it is small. It was PACKED. I warned the spouse after I finished cramming every spare spot, pockect and cranny that if he opened the hatch on it, everything would burst outward like the "can of snakes" prank we had as kids.

Holding hands with spouse on Pirates.

Seeing the "Nightmare" Haunted house. (I prefer the original).

Looks on kids faces when they met Mickey Mouse, Cin'erella and Snow White.

Dinner at Hook's Pointe on Christmas with the entire gang. Despite the 2hr wait to be seated.

A Christmas Morning with the entire family in one place.

The parked closed at noon on X-mas - it had reached maximum capacity. We were claustrophobic and retreated to CA Adventure, which was only as crowded as D-land on a normal day.

Seeing my favorite uncle and cousin at dinner on Tuesday.

Sitting in the very front of California Screaming after waiting only 2 minutes in line. (Fast Passes are genius!)

Finally beating the spouse at Buzz Lightyear - and declining to play again so that I don't have to give up bragging rights.

Riding Buzz Lightyear with my blaster waving kids.

Not loosing control of any of my bodily functions on Tower of Terror.

Riding the Matterhorn Bobsleds and accidentally scraping my finger tips on the roof of the tunnel (ouch!).

Taking my mom on rides she rode in 1965 and on others that didn't exist in 1965. (1965 was her only other visit to the park).

Watching my son dance on stage at the "Ugly Bug Ball".

Getting into the Park before 8am on Monday and enjoying the relative calm.

Riding with the entire family on Storybook both during day and at night.

Meeting Santa and seeing real reindeer. Painting cookies and getting blue tongues.

Shopping for the Villianesses in my life.

Finally seeing the Queen of Narnia at her spot next to Sweeping Beauty's Castle Monday night. The area is roped off and we lurked in that area for most of the trip without seeing any signs of her. She was there Monday night in her white gown, crystal crown, up-swept locks and sinister look. They did a really good job with costume and characterization. She was glaring at everyone and those brave enough to get their photo taken with her - she looked like she was going to take a bite out of their necks.

Waiting out the staggering line at Indiana Jones Monday night and leaving the park at 12:45 am.

Goodby Mickey Mouse. You've parted us from enough of our lucre.

'Nuf said. I can't wait to get the pictures.
