I've embraced the reality of the car situation. We had a sane conversation about it, too. These things happen. They happened frequently with the Blazer... like every 4 months. My car is not there, so right now, we don't need to batten down the hatches.

The sticker price that truly shocked me was the "casual" sneakers at Big 5. I walked out without making a purchase. I was totally miffed.

The kids surprised me. What I was not ready for was E's total melt down when she found out we were walking home. She walked further at D-land in October just getting to and from the park. It's the equivalent of 5 blocks from preschool to our house... at most! But nooooo.... immediate hysterics. And the phrase, "I'm tired, who's going to carry me?!?!?" was belted out more than once. I wanted to say, Sing it, sister, but that might have encouraged her. Since she wasn't accepting any of my other calming phrases, I finally told her to lump it - that as soon as she could figure out how to fly, she wouldn't need to worry about it and in the meantime, she was walking. Jeez! That said, we were less than a block from school and she was already teasing her brother and skipping along. Half way home she was zipping all over the place and didn't look like someone who needed to be carried. My little drama queen. How lucky she is to have me to crash into and bounce off of.

N was fine from the start. In fact, halfway home he told me that his homework was done and that we should go for a walk on the trail as soon as we got home. (Accompanied by winning smile and sparkly blue eyes.) That was tempting except my sore footies were not up for it. So we made a deal. IF he gets his Thursday homework turned in on Thursday and provided there are no major behaviour issues between now and when I pick them up on Thursday, we'll walk/bike right after school. (he'll bike, I'll push E in a jog stroller). So he's all pumped about that.

Fitness Fun

I finally got to the gym. My recent work outs have been sabotaged by my body/brain. I keep falling asleep as soon as kids are in bed. And I try to take a nap with the goal of getting up an hour later to work out, but it never happens. Go figure!

I ran at lunch last Thursday (hell day). I did 2 laps around aquatic park and it took me about 50 minutes. I'm estimating Aquatic Park is 2.5 mi or so. Just based on my speed. Though it was level, my legs had new pains by 7 am on Friday. Yay! Fitness works!!

Then I worked out 3:00 AM on Saturday (I couldn't sleep from 1am onwards and gave up at 3 - headed to gym to burn it out of me. It worked.) On Saturday morn I biked for 40 min (hill program) and then ran for 30 min (interval training, speed split, 3min-6.3 mph//45 sec - 7.8 mph) and then did light weights on upper body... meaning I only did hammer curl instead of all my bicep exercises (I usually do regular bicep curl AND hammer curls, 3-4 sets of each. Sometimes I replace bicep curl w/ preacher curl, but the grip on that is very annoying.) Anyway, I did MY version of light weights. And then I slept very hard. And my legs protested mightily. In fact, I had dreams (nightmares?) about leg cramps. That's totally bizzare.

And then I made it tonight. Yay. I dodged the sleepy thing by staying OFF the hypnotic sofa. I was going to focus on bike tonight, but they were full... at 10 pm (!!!!) Jeez Lou-eez! In fact, all the treadmills and bikes and climbers were full at 10pm. Who are these people in my gym? Didn't they get the memo that I usually come in at 9pm and they need to be outta my way!!!! I was going to get cranky, but I did some stretching and then a few treadmills popped open at 10:15. Tonight I did intervals on tread mill (speed split, 3 min, 6.3 mph//1 min, 7.8 mph). Then I biked for 30 min (hill program. left knee is a recurring problem. owie). Then I did weights (lat pull down, tricep ext, Arnold press, hammer curl, straight-legged dead-lift.) Then stretching. The home and unwind on PC. (Why am I still awake at almost 3AM? this is nuts)

I think I can do this tri respectabley. Right now I'm missing the swimming piece. Pool hours are 6am - 1pm (MWF), 7 am - 1 pm (T/T), 10 am - 1pm Sat. It's hard to work around those hours. I'm going to aim for a 6am swim on Friday as long as it's not pouring rain out. And my plan is to do that on Mondays and Fridays between now and Tri. Goal: just swim 900 yds w/o stopping. Nothing fancy, just do it, don't swallow water, don't freak out, don't stop, conserve energy and work on form. Save the huge bursts of energy for biking and running, which take longer to complete.

I guess I'm driving the Suburban.. without tags.. tomorrow. It's full of armor, which smells of leather and that special armor mustiness that clings to the rig. It's homey and sexy and it will keep F in my thoughts as I drive. I suppose the "homey and sexy" part mean I've been in the SCA so long that my reality has warpped. Oh well, I don't really care.

P.S. Made dinner. Totally yummy chicken fajitas. Though they'd probably kill [livejournal.com profile] d_salie and [livejournal.com profile] beanolc due to chili flakes AND chili powder. But it was totally scrummy if you like spicy food.
