1. I sewed last night and today. I am gutting and remaking something. I'm trying to assemble it faster than it's fraying. Very annoying that it's fraying and this is the second rebuild. But it's chugging along.

2. I registered the Delightful Miss E for kindgergarden today. The process totally honked me off and I ended up venting about the district to the ladies at the school.
Despite checking the website for the school district MULTIPLE times; despite going by the school a month ago to pick up any pre-reg paper work, the packet they handed me at 9 am is when I found out the acceptable pieces for proof of residency AND more medical documentation requirements. RAWR!!!! Plus (!) I was supposed to have Miss E WITH ME! Give me a f-ing break! Who knows this ahead of time?

Even though I thought I was prepared, I was not. It's when the ladies who were screening this stuff suggested I run down to my doctor's office to get the shot records that I got super-pissed and started sharing my feelings. I am a working, commuting parent who had to make arrangements with work to be there. I made the point of explaining that I understood it was not their fault, but I articulated my frustration about how my preparations were for naught and that the secret nature of these requirements were not available ahead of time. Because of this, I will now have to commute to Berkeley and work until at least 9 pm to make up for the district's lack of advance communication. I wanted to know who, in the district, I could complain to about the districts lack of structure.

One lady became super helpful and said that they didn't really mean for the process to be painful. I'm pretty sure it was not her job to scoot over and help me figure out which paper work could be deferred, so I appreciated her time and attention. But still... I'm writing to the district to complain.

Before I was done, I had to race off to get Miss E and return with her so she could be assessed by the kindergarden teachers (and maybe verified that she is a real person and not a cabbage patch baby.) We got there and when the teachers tried to lead her off, Miss E wrapped herself around my leg and announced that she was shy. (really? now you're shy? hmm) For her part, the Delightful Miss E correctly ID'd all of her ABCs when they were presented in a scrambled fashion AND almost all her numbers (she reversed 6 and 9). It was super-cute, too. When they showed her "A", she didn't say "A", she said "Alleeyah", who's her buddy at school. She's learned her letters by associating them with people. I could not help laughing and the teacher was totally confused. I prompted Miss E to say the name of the letter and not the child who's name it was. And from there out she snapped out the letters as soon as she was prompted. The teacher was nice and told us Miss E is the only child who'd gotten all her ABCs so far. Miss E, a very good listener and info-retainer, was excited to pass this information along at school.

How do you thank the teaching staff for prepping your child for school? I don't think you really can. I always say thanks to them and they seem to appreciate our acknowledgement, but today I ordered them pizzas for lunch. It's something I meant to do weeks ago, but I never remember to do it until it's too late. They were super-excited. I think I did the same thing last year during teacher-appreciation week.
