I think it can be hard to estimate difficulty on an absolute scale unless you work at it (i.e., work at estimating difficulty levels, with proper feedback on accuracy). I wouldn't have guessed that I'd tackle those hills as well as I did so, conversely, if you asked me how hard they were, I'd probably underestimate it (because they couldn't be that hard if I managed them that well). I"m tired, but not exhausted. Which is about where I want to be after a ride.
