Oh yes! I did that once when I was 10. I picked up the wrong end of a fireplace poker that had just been used. My hand turned black and got very disgusting before it started to heal. I was so embarrassed that I'd done something so stupid, that I didn't tell my mom until it was quite infected. Very, very gross! ..and yes, it did smell like roasted meat at first. Not so nice later though.
