EditedSirSt liked "Forward Momentum Tri Team". You saw it here first... One day we might be world famous Tri-champs. Or at least super-enthusiastic Tri-vets who will gleefully show you how easy it is to get involved and shower you with praise for trying.
Here's
Forward Momentum Tri Team's inaugural race,
the olympic length triathlon at Pacific Grove on Saturday, Sept 13. I also registered for the half-day training seminar on how to swim in the kelp forest in August. It seemed like a superb idea since the swim leg is called the 'kelp crawl'. I have visions of being grabbed, dragged under and eaten by the kelp forest, so learning to make nice with the kelp sounds like a great plan.
I wonder if the class touches on Great White Sharks... there was someone swimming in Solano last month, training for a tri, and he got chomped. Along a stretch of coast that he and his tri team had been training on for 4 years. Great. Well, there's so many people in the water, my odds are pretty good I'll pass the Shark Gauntlet. Hey - I wonder if they go in the kelp forest? This is the 10th annual event, so sharks can't be that big of a problem, right? If it was, they'd never get the insurance, right?
after some internet browsing
like this interesting website about sharks in Monterey, I'm not reassured that I won't be shark bait. It looks like I have to rely on the statistics... as in "how many fatal shark attacks in a year and thus how likely is it that I will be picked out of the school of triathletes". Hm. I was looking for a 'never ever ever' kind of reassurance. Didn't Batman have "Shark Off" in one episode? I want that.
