threadwalker: (happy in my own world)
These are all about me. Call me selfish, but I've been "putting out" for work, family, home, extended family, and friends lately. So today I reserve this corner of my world for me. Ha!

1. I did Wildcat this morning. It was dark, but since I've been doing Mt Diablo, I've decided to just not worry about the feline factor. Fah! It was cold. Good news: arm warmers rock. Good news: headlamp worked very nicely. Good news: the climb didn't feel hard. Good news: Lots of fun. Less than good news: gears are getting worse. Going to go back to doing this 2x a week.

2. I watched that claymation, 'Santa Claus is coming to Town' with the kids the other night while we were all piled in my bed. I had to explain the plot a bit to Evie; that Kris Kringle felt that kids should get to play and laugh and have fun. Towards the end, when Kris and Jessica get married, Evie, who's been telling me for quite some time that she's never going to get married because she doesn't like kissing, said in a wistful little whisper, "I wish I could marry Santa Claus." And, a few minutes later, "I wish he didn't marry her so that I could marry him."

I got all teary eyed. No idea why, I just did. I told F about it later and he thought it was pretty cute, too. She's certainly marching to the beat of her own drummer. Last week she gave all her little-girl play jewelry away because she declared she isn't a girlie-girl. However, she likes dresses. She's never getting married, but she'd marry the guy who would live her dreams with her. I'm fascinated by her. I notice that sometimes she falls victim to media messages, "girls play with these toys" or "girls do these things". I try to make sure she knows that she has no limits and that she can come up with her own dreams to pursue; she can wear whatever she wants and she is free to enjoy or dislike whatever she prefers without having to conform. So far so good.

3. I am working like a dog. We are short staffed. I can't seem to say "no". And I am going to miss some of my annual goals. So I'll get the "A+" for team player, but I'll get the "did not follow through on X" and it won't matter how many times I pulled all-nighters or worked miracles or got Grouch-a-saures Rex to cooperate against all odd, the fact that I "did not follow through on X" will dominate my annual review. I hate this.

4. It's going to be a nice Christmas season within the boundaries of my house. I need a safe space from the drama.

5. Projects... puttering away on some embroidery. Lots of languishing sewing projects crying out for love. I could use a week off and submerge in projects. It won't happen, but it would be nice.
