Overall:
I get home from the gym and I'm just a puddle of exhaustion, which was not the case before I reworked my program.

Last night I was in denial after hanging with the neighbors and scaring away fire-cracker bearing kids. Instead of going to bed, which is what my internal exhaustion-meter was screaming at me, I logged onto CoH to play w/ hubby. After 5 minutes I almost face-planted the keyboard. I kept closing my eyes and waking up to being defeated. I gave up. I did manage to turn off the computer and then I fell asleep in front of it with my head in my arms while waiting for hubby to be done. How's that for romantic? hahaha! Next time I'll go to bed.

I think that I can say with total confidence that I am giving my work-outs serious energy input and not stinting on effort level.

Today is Thursday, which is my day of rest. I think my body is greatful; everything is achey and will perform better after getting some recovery. Thursday is the day that might be a play, or a night with an apprentice or a night reading a book or maybe taking family out. But it's not a night at the gym. My compulsive brain suggested I go roller-blading at lunch, but I've sent "that" voice to the corner for a time-out. I'm locked in my office with work and I will take 30 minutes for myself, but I won't be exercising.

I feel really good.

Weigh-in (at home):
Despite indulging in pizza and eating out a bunch over the last week, plus devouring several pieces of french bread on Saturday (oh how I adore thee, loaf of french bread, let me count the ways...)
I seem to have maintained the same or gained about 0.5 lb. That's cool. I'm still counting points and tracking and I know I went over my budget last week. But I'm not feeling defeated because life isn't about denying myself stuff, it's about making choices and owning the consequences. I'm glad I can trace the consequences to my choices. Today I will make different choices.

*I hated doing this and I was mentally griping almost the whole time. You'd never know I was a serious distance runner at one point. However, right at the end, I got into the groove and started thinking it didn't suck. So maybe I need to get past the 10-minute internal bitch-session before I can get groovy. Feet and knees seem to be doing okay, so next week maybe I increase this to 12-13 minutes.

I had a fantasy on my way to work today: I wonder if I could do a triatholon in 2009 (the year I turn 40). I would definitely have to get past the current "I hate to run" thing since there's a 1/2 marathon in it. But maybe that will help motivate me... I'll have a reason to run other than burn calories. I'd have to find a day a week to swim, too. I miss swimming and I know there are pools in Berkeley. And then there's biking. My last bike was a gift on my 12th birthday. I got rid of it when I was 25, so now I'm bikeless.

I got a journal to carry around. I think most of my boring fitness stuff (the actualy routine and my diet/nutrition and my viatmins) will live there.

As part of this 8 week program, I will slowly increase treadmill portion. A few minutes each week should be do-able.

Next 8 week program: swap out one of the weight lifting days for a "cardio blast" only day. Find local pool for lap swim. Start using bike at gym. I will need to get a bike next year if I get serious about the triatholon. That might be a fun co-motivational to do w/ hubby, too.. hm.. hidden benefits.

That's enough for now. My brain is full of exercise even if I'm not doing any. I wonder if you burn calories just thinking about burning calories. lol
