heh... hey here is a suggestion for building up breathing on both sides... try sustained swimming for 20 minute periods. By this I mean constantly swimming (continuous motion) in the pool for 20 min. I found out real quick I could switch sides and strokes to sustain it.

You may not be able to change strokes in triathlon... but it can build up your time tolerance until you need to practice one stroke only.
