Up on Berryessa and maybe an hour from the Beltane site.

1. I'm stressed and flipping in and out of panic mode. When I'm in panic mode, I want to cancel ALL my plans for the next 10 weeks and focus entirely on training (or pulling blankets over my head.) When I am out of panic mode, I'm confident that I can do this. My only question is: will I race better than the boss?... right this instance, I want to throw on some running shoes and go do 4 miles, which means I'm panicked.

2. There are no available room accomodations in the area. This is irony. We will be camping on Beltane weekend an hour or so from Beltane, but not participating in the event. In my younger days, I'd have pitched going to the event, racing off to the race, then racing back to the event to pack down. I'm not insane (or not that young anymore) and the race starts at 8am, so the LAST thing I want to do is mess up my mental space with SCA gorp or speeding around the place trying to shoe-horn too many things into a weekend.

3. The race is about an hour from Beltane. The race starts at 8am on Sunday, but it goes in waves. I don't think I'm in the first few waves. And the 20-30 min swim will be followed by a 1 hr bike and a 40-50 min run (a 40-min stagger? stumble? gasp for breath of life?). It occurs to me that if anyone who's going to Beltane is
a - Sober Sunday Morning
b - Not encumbered with meetings or court duties
c - is inclined to drive up for it (either on their way home or for kicks and giggles)

they could come up to the race, stand on a hill and yell at me to pick up the pace. OR to not quit. Or yell "a griffin". Or yell that they came all that way to see a race, not someone staggering along.

I know... this is totally not logistically likely. But one can always wish for friendly faces yelling at you to keep going... (wow, that would sound so wrong if it weren't in context).

Time to get my training schedule nailed down and figure out the pre-race taper.

"Down with Carbs"... (just cuz I need to remind myself)

I woke up this morning thinking about this race. I have not registered for it yet. I have no doubt that I could be ready, but I would have to ditch an annual family (fun) obligation to do it. I might be able to do both. I need to ponder.

I just did some searching, and there is no conflict. Now I have to come up with the $100, and then I am golden.

I would be happy to come yell at you. :-)

because of the magic of Live Journal, I got copied on this in my yahoo-mail, which is NOT accessible from work and which is why I read this at 10pm last night.

I'm overwhelmed. I've been reflecting on your post since 10pm last night and I was overwhelmed with warm fuzzy feelings. I've been flashing back to meeting you at Fall Coronet that Chad won, through the Griffin years, including Pennsic 20, ... That would be so cool.

I'll keep posting updates here as I get them.

I'd need to dates and directions. Also, I have a black belt test some weekend around then, date to be decided, so that might conflict. Otherwise....
