I am about to brag on myself ... my mom would be HORRIFIED and I feel silly doing it, but!
I fell asleep before 8pm last night - right as N and I finished his reading homework. I woke up at 11pm, immediately bummed that I'd fallen asleep and missed my work out. It was a key work out because I'd missed Sat, Sun and Monday's, so I feel like I'm losing ground. I started scheming to get up at 3 am when 'the voice' said, "When was the last time THAT plan worked?" There was some heated internal dialogue where the second voice argued that it would work THIS time. So the question was, "What, now, brown cow?"
Options:
a) Roll the dice and hope that THIS time I get up at 3am? Has not worked yet.
b) "Reschedule" it to Thursday and count the 3 extra points I ate to go towards my 35? Rescheduing seems to get cancelled half the time PLUS I was planning an intense Brick*, which needs to be followed by a day of rest. But with swimming Friday morning, I wouldn't get the needed rest if I worked out on Thursday
c)Or "just do it" - get out of bed and go to gym? This has worked in the past.
I went with option C. Yay!
I got to the gym at about 11:40 pm. The treadmills were almost all in use. OMG! Who are these people? I'd be in bed if I wasn't in a race in a month. What's their reason? It was weird. There were at least half a dozen people on the aerobic equipment until I quit around 1:30 am. I'm surprised at the level of activity. There were folks still in the free-weight area and easily over 25 cars parked in front.
It certainly wasn't abandoned or creepy.
I did a Brick*. I also tried some Gu (vanilla) during the ride, which might be why I was not exhausted when I transitioned to treadmill (Gu at 40 min mark on bike). I did not experience cramping in my legs when I got on the treadmill, but my legs were convinced that I was torturing them and did not want to run, which is a new feeling. Maybe I hadn't noticed this before because sans Gu I was too exhausted to hear my feet and legs protest. Well, we shall see because the other option is that I've been slacking and need to do more bricks. (muh-ha-ha... I forsee a routine Brick Night). Today I rest and recover. Tomorrow I plan to be at Cowell pool at 6 am to swim until 7am. I need to work on my form, so I need to come up with a work out tonight after I get home. And I'll do a light run with weight training in the evening.
Work out:
Stationary Bike: 50 min, hill program. I kept my cadence at 90rpm+. Time to increase difficulty since I couldn't keep my HR above 125 consistently.
Treadmill: warm up, interval, ramp up:
10 min, warm up, 6.0 mph
(interval)
5 min, 6.5 mph
>2.5 min, 6.0 mph
4 min, 6.6 mph
>2 min, 6.0 mph
3 min, 6.7 mph
>1.5 min 6.0
2 min, 6.8 mph
>1 min 6.0
(sprint ramp up)
2 min, 7.0 mph
2 min, 7.3 mph
1 min, 7.5
1 min, 7.9
1 min, 8.1 mph
(rest)
3 min 6.0
*Brick: Do 2 tri legs, transitioning straight from one to the other. I did the bike and then the run.
