Jun. 11th, 2008 06:12 pm1. If I "believe" in a moisturizer that says it will make my skin look younger, even if it's a gimmic, then I know I will feel younger. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
2. My preschooler is "graduating" from preschool tomorrow night. My son, who's last day of first grade was today and who graduated from both preschool and kindergarden with a full ceremony, hat and certificate, wanted to know why he wasn't graduating from first grade as well. His next "graduation" will probably be end of elementary school. However, his query has been rolling around in the back of my head. Have we over emphasized the littlest accomplisments and blown them all out of proportion such that now kids expect a big whoop-dee-do for doing what's expected of them? Or am I just a stick in the mud decrying "we didn't do that when I was a kid!"? Where is the line between "postive reinforcement/encouragement" and "let's make a big deal because they didn't get kicked out of preschool for fighting and biting?"
3. Traffic was dramatically down when I drove in this morning. What's up with that? Gas prices or job-lay offs or summer break?
4. I got to work late today because I fulfilled a promise to my son. His day-care has a bus that runs the kids to their various schools and I'd promised last fall that I would ride it with him. It was the last day of school today and I suddenly remembered the promise. I was late to work, but it was totally worth it.
5. My 4yr old asks, "mommy, do I look cute?" My new response: "I'm not going to tell you if you're cute on the outside, I'm going to tell you if I think you're being pretty on the inside." She seems to understand what I mean.
6. Shopping therapy: it works for me.
7. I got kicked in the teeth last week at work for "being me". I have assessed my error and modified my behaviour. Now everyone keeps asking me if I'm okay. (roll eyes) You can't have it both ways; I can't be me and not be me.
8. I made a fashion statement today: black knit top, knee-length black skirt embellished at hem with white embroidery, steel toed boots, no socks. Yeah, I've cornered the market on fem and sexy. Look out ladies, steel-toed mama coming through. Too bad I don't own any leopard print leggings. Now THAT would have been sexy AND classy.
9. Why do people think they are going to talk me out of my opinion with arguments that I have already shot down over and over and over? I'm a parent with titanium will power. Kid-tactics don't work on me. And yet, they still try. It boggles.

(But the "pretty inside" is a good addition.)
6. Retail therapy...yummy! I want some retail therapy! (Truth is, I've been indulging way too much in that for the last year.)

6. Nordstrom.com for Fredrick Feddai hair stuff and Clinque skin stuff. Overstock.com for some buisness slack/jacket sets (super cheap relative to what I'd pay in a store and necessary for up coming work stuff... but despite convenience and necessity, felt like therapy shopping).

Date: 2008-06-12 07:35 pm (UTC)#3 I have noticed that when school is out, commute traffic drops significantly (maybe by one quarter), and I'm guessing students can afford even less gas than usual this summer.
#7 I hate when people want you to be frank and open, except if you are critical of them... then you are the devil!
