To the Corbie Cave!

I don my super seamstress cape, my armored shoes that are pin-proof, and my black clothing guaranteed to collect lint and I head out to my not-secret workshop of sewing madness.. The Corbie Cave!
(Theme music: Brickhouse..LOL.. which is a flashback to the tri last May. I love funny DJs)
yes, this is a project post. Tonights sewing flicks were "Jayne's Town" from the Firefly series and "The Italian Job".
Actually, I feel like I've lost my sewing street cred. I can't explain it any better except that my wardrobe is so puny and my productivity seems to be funneled into "production sewing" for the kids... that "get it done NOW stuff" that does not lend itself to the aspects that I especially enjoy. So there it is; someone needs to revoke my Laurel or I need to stop wearing my medallion or something. I need to stop admitting to folks that I can sew until I can redeem myself. If asked, I guess I'll just say this is the Thread_walker formerly known as a historical tailor.
I think this overall mental state explains how tonight evolved. Tonight I worked on a turn of the 16th century Italian gown for Robin. (Yay! Robin! We Lurve Robin!) The project was first floated a few years ago. Robin indicated she'd like this type of dress. I told her I'd be happy to do one, but only had the bandwidth for the machine work; the hand-finish work would be up to her. She agreed. She got fabric. I finally worked my backlog down and now she's on deck. In our detailed discussion, the path of sanity was for me to just machine-finish everything; being the super busy (although reportedly NOT overcommitted) woman that she is, Robin has better ways of spending her time than hand-hemming a 5 yard skirt. Totally understandable.
And there I am tonight, finally removing the last bit of machine top-stitching from the neck band, removing the neck-band and then replacing it. And instead of machine finishing it, I put in "The Italian Job" and start hand stitching down the edges. Because I am tired of production sewing. I don't WANT to do machine finishing. I don't want to see this dress with machine stitching all over it. I finally have my hands on something that nurtures my anal retentive finishing techniques and I'm doing it my way.
I'm sure Robin won't mind. It will look a zillion times better and I'll feel happier with it.
And now for some bling... I have some gold trim I picked up that I need to put on... by hand. Additional hand-work is not the reason I got the trim, but doing a wee bit more handwork just makes it more of a win.
