Date: 2008-09-16 03:42 pm (UTC)It's so amazing to go from a state of pain to a state free of pain. It's pure bliss... I just flopped around the place luxuriating in the pain-freeness of it all.

Date: 2008-09-16 03:32 pm (UTC)Look for the best brand you can, and expect to pay about $15 for a ~1 oz. bottle - with essential oils you get what you pay for. It should smell clean and strong, not too sweet or chemical-y.
Lavender is an awesome thing to have around the house in general - it's a mild antiseptic, great for burns, useful for skincare in general, and makes everything smell good!
Regardless, I hope you heal up quickly!

Date: 2008-09-17 01:59 am (UTC)As it happens, I know you, but you have no reason to know me. :-) I joined in early '91, just after your reign, and you and F were still very active and visible to the awestruck kid that we all are when we first find the SCA. Our paths didn't cross much over time but we had the occasional random chat here or there, so you are very much in my collection of "who's who" in the West. :-)
We don't get back out there all that often but we have made it at least once a year since we moved, so I'm sure we'll happen upon one another sooner or later!

Date: 2008-09-16 04:59 pm (UTC)It's interesting, over the past 5 years or so, we are finding more and more applications for oregano oil as a feed ingredient/flavoring agent in preventing and curing poultry intestinal problems.
I always find it satisfying when "alternative" therapies work in animals. It's alot harder to argue the placebo effect than with human results.
You are right though, with alot of these products form is important and you get what you pay for. Unfortunately the crappy preparations really make a bad name for the good stuff.

Date: 2008-09-17 02:04 am (UTC)Don't get me wrong, there's a great deal of good about modern science, but a whole lot of arrogance and humongous blind spots too. Essential oils work because of *chemistry*, for pity's sake, and yet you can still find posts from skeptics that claim that the use of essential oils is "quackery" and has absolutely zero efficacy - and this in the face of clinical trials of certain oil properties!

Apropos of nothing whatsoever other than your comment making me think of it, may I friend you? :-)
