Sewing Binge Update
Jul. 20th, 2005 03:27 amHurrah! I have a pair of lavender linen "joined" hose. whoop, woot, hurrah!
I got started at 9pm tonight. The kids needed baths and snuggles, which is sooo much more important than any sewing project, so my start was later than I thought it would be. The sleeves were made, fiddled with, and attached by 10:30. The linen for the braies was shrunk, but it looks like I won't actually need it unless I'm feeling extra period since my hose are joined and utterly discreet.
I started working up my hose pattern around 10:30. That was tough. I never realized how hard it was to stick pins across the back of ones own rear end without drawing blood. I suspect it would have gone much more quickly if there'd been another pair of hands. However, 3 hours later I had a pattern close enough to start cutting out the linen. So I did. I had just enough linen to get both legs, which was scaring me. My only other pieces were fire-engine red or pepto-bismal pink - and with that it would have been each leg a different color. That's a bit too much wild clash even for my sense of style.
I tweaked my linen leggings until they fit right and then "back copied" it onto my new pattern so it's saved.
So the shirt is done, the hose are done except for attaching points. The doublet needs some finish work. And then make a hat and maybe a pouch. Oh my god! Did I really get all this done in three days? Total working time was 11 hours plus whatever I put into it tomorrow.
And then I get back to work on the hem of the 1460's dress adn find my Italian short stories. doo-dah, doo-dah!
