Master, it's aliiiiiive!

Well, I pulled it together sufficiently to wear.

Post event summary (strictly costume critique of my own stuff. Pretty boring - more for my own failing memory):Read more... )

Overall, I really liked the outfit. It's definitely an indoor outfit, though.

Next I need to ponder my growing wish list of projects.

I had fun at 12th Night. No schedule, no responsibilities, no kids. Wow! That has NEVER happened before. I really, really liked it.

Friday night Da Chef took another apprentice. Makes me a "grandma" twice over. Heh! It is a weird spot to be in to see your former student take a student. I feel removed and yet close. Excited and mellow. Young, old and everything in between. Anyone else care to comment on watching students take students?

Da Chef and I haven't established how much meddling I'm allowed to do with her nestlings ... I may just sneak up on them like my grandma did to me. hee, hee, hee! I'm sure she's warned them about my entangling ideas, but those warnings don't seem to be proof against my skills if the mantles, the Persian, and a host of other things are any proof of that.

We party-hopped Friday night and got our bearings on everyone's rooms while I fiddled with wanna-be-ruffs.

Saturday morning started right. I got a bubble bath and gave myself a facial. Painted my toes and pretty much took my time, enjoying the quiet and unrushed pace of our temporary hotel life.

My ropa compatriot showed up so we could help each other get ready. We were concerned about our hats behaving, but everything went together smoothly and stayed in place. Brunch was leisurely at the cafe. I splurged and had beef. Towards the end of brunch I was summoned to court.

That was very odd - I haven't been surprise-summoned to court in ages. The last time I was called up in court was my Pelican ceremony 6 years ago, which was moderately choreographed and I knew it was coming. Same with the awards before that: Laurel and Poppy. So of course I spent the trip to court trying to figure out what I'd done to get "noticed". It didn't help that my Ropa Compatriot said, "Ohh! I have to come see this. Wait for me!"

I don't really hang with the royals and could only figure I'd gotten their attention for dragging Eliana to dinner with us at A&S - some sort of "thank you for being kind to the queen" handshake thing. When I did go up, I couldn't rightly recall the ettiquette for getting called into court, so when Jade complimented my outfit, I almost did a spin for him on stage. hahahaha! I made my saving throw against "sewing geek" and knelt instead. I didn't recognize the ceremony one little bit, but I was given the Western Lily. I was very flattered, but the imp in me wanted to say "Silly Royals, I don't do this for the awards; teaching and promoting the arts is its own award."

And the rest of the day was spent being with Da Spouse and catching up with friends and family. It was loverly. We passed out the household's gifts - Sunday sanity sacks. Heh!

I barely made it in time to see the artisan's display. My tokens were lollipops from our Disneyland adventure this X-mas. heh! Efemeral, but isn't art efemeral? Jarvis was there when I passed them out and he just about busted his gut laughing because he was with me when I got them. I think this years display was bigger than last years. Or maybe I'm just getting old and forgetful. Ha! One of my students displayed. I'm very proud of her achievements and the fact that she keeps pushing herself.

We swore fealty en masse. I'm not sure what the point of that was. It probably sped court up. Fabian and Eliska looked awesome. Nymue did a fantastic job on their clothes.

I got to spring an awesome early b-day present on Da Spouse. I'd commissioned something from Diane and Mark last spring/summer. Of course, getting him and Diane in the same place was almost impossible because of course Diane wanted to see him receive it. I spent most of the new royals first court tracking down Da Spouse, who vanished like mist after swearing fealty. Men! Anyway, he was flummoxed when he got it. Zap! I love taking his breath away. He commissioned my collar from Bianca and I've always wanted to get him something super special back - something he wouldn't think to get for himself. Mission accomplished!

The evening parties merged into one big loud thing in the downstairs lobby. There was definitely drunkery! I admit to being part of it. I pretty much remember everything I said and did, so don't try to lay any shenanigans on me.

We'd started at the Half-Life party, which was loverly and the cysor was kicking!!! I love my blinky-martini glass, too. Those were the coolest!!! We planted in the hallway because it was too hot in the room. HRJ resisted my awesome powers of suggestion. I kept trying to get her to substitute some naughty Welsh translations for the perfectly sweet ones someone was asking for. But HRJ was either being super nice (possible) or hadn't had enough to drink (also possible). We'll see what we can get her to translate at A&S this year. Muhahaha!

But my pickled brain did absorb: wyn = white. (My unpredictable powers of retention are working!)

Security moved us downstairs; they told me that we were the nicest group of drunks they'd ever had to deal with. hahahaha! Long live courtesy and chivalry. heh!

I think I kidnapped someone, too, because her S.O. found us in the lobby after midnight-ish. I had started hanging out with her around 9:30 when her S.O. said she could find him in the SCA hall/dining room. We started yammering, then we cruised back to my room, then the household showed up at my room (apparently they'd started drinking without me!), and we went from there to the Half-Life Party. I dragged her along.

Oops! that's my name ... Drags friends along!

Well, her S.O. ran into her in the lobby tucked in with us. We told the boyfriend that we'd "claimed her" as one of us. I'm pretty sure he didn't know what to make of that. heh! The less he suspects, the better.

I switched to beer and stayed there. I had a chance to talk to some folks I'd never had time with before. That was totally cool and I'll be looking for them again in a more sober setting. I was surprised that the spouse and I outlasted most of the other members of the household. I think we tucked in at 3:30.

I woke up feeling great Sunday morning. I was practically bouncing off the walls and revving to get the kids, to get home and to start a project or 4. My response to everyone who kept peering into my eyes Sunday morning, smirking and asking me how I was:

I feel great. I'm Irish and alcohol makes us stronger.
