The non-Tri part of the Weekend

I had Friday off. Vacation day, not holiday.
I slept in to 6 am, which felt sinful. I dropped the kids off at school and tried to replace my missing drivers license, but the DMV is closed for most of the Friday's of September (probably some budgetary thing). Turns out my license had been left in my bike pouch and I "found" it on Saturday when I prepped my bike for the race. I'm a lucky duck! (Well, it was all my fault anyway, but I made my saving throw against myself.) I did a light 4 mile run along the canal, cleaned up and then waited for my ride.
Since F's employer is never predictable about when he gets off of work, I decided my path of sanity lie with getting to Monterey early and ideally via bus or friend so we weren't driving 2 cars home on Sunday. Fortunately,
ermine_rat and his navigator, Hawk Lad, were available and kindly agreed to take me to Monterey.
Hawk Lad informed me it was a long drive to the beach, but it didn't feel so long since the company was so good. We checked in at the race expo, had lunch, I checked in at the B&B and then
ermine_rat took me on a tour of Carmel, hidden beaches, Point Lobos, and other jewels in that area. It was pretty darn awesome. I taught Hawk Lad a new "pose" for his pictures and helped him try to fill in the ocean by tossing in rocks.
Sunday we picked up our kids from Nanny's house. On the way home Miss E was either chattering or singing non-stop. I finally asked her to be quiet for a bit.
She responded,"But mommy, you just had a whole weekend of peace and quiet."
F and I snuck glances at each other. He was biting his lips and I was kind of snickering. I stopped laughing enough to reply, "Miss E, it doesn't count as "all weekend" until 4pm. You need to pipe down for another hour and a half."
F had to boot up the PC and work. (feh!) The kids and I retreated to the Corbie Cave where I fullfilled a promise to make Miss E a hat from a pattern we got from Great Grandma. It's a 1970's, brimmed hat... very trendy from back then. We (I!) made it out of denim that was embroidered with watermellons and lined it with white/teal/purple print. I also finally turned one of my gifty-embroideries into a pouch. I'm in the mental zone to finish stuff up, not start new stuff. Which is good - I want my Corbie Cave to be less cluttered.
While we were out there it began to rain. Wild. We had record heat on Friday and rain on Sunday.
The kids ran around in the rain for a bit; summer showers are novel for them.
