I worked on the opus project last night. I think I may have ruined it. sigh.

I thickened up the dark bands. At first I liked it. This morning ... I'm not too sure. It seems kind of bold for the scale. But earlier I was thinking it was too understated. I suspect that "mastery" will mean striking a good balance of scale. Also, my banding is not all the same size. I have come to suspect mastery may also mean maintaining similar scale throughout.

Look at it again when you get home tonight. I know that when I look too closely for too long at a project, all I see is how I messed it up. Time can help you get a better perspective. So can another opinion. Are you going to see anybody whose opinion you respect anytime soon?

I think it looks chunky. However, I pulled out a book and closely examined the photos. In comparison, mine doesn't look too chunky anymore.

Bleck. I'm still learning the aesthetic. But at least I'm chugging along. I'm mentally planning the next one. And this one isn't a complete wash, I just lament that it won't look like it came straight out of a museum.

And if I had made that statement, what would you say to me?
