Beautiful Day

It is an amazingly beautiful day out. And I'm full of caffeine, so I can't help my urge to share my sun-shiney outlook. Hooray for Tuesday. It's bright, clear and the sky is sooo pretty.
On the surgery front, recovery seems to be speeding up. Chills last night, but he rested so much better than he has all week, he was talking about picking the kids up from school today. What a turn around in energy level that is!! I don't really expect he'll be feeling up to this, but his mood is a good indicator on how he's feeling. Yay!
And (drum roll) I dragged myself to the gym last night at 9:30 pm. By nature I'm not a "night" gym person - once I'm home I don't like to go out again. I would prefer to roll out of bed at 4 am and go work out, but right now that doesn't work. So I dressed in gym clothes right when I got home, spent the evening talking myself up, and grabbed John Stakely's novel, "Armor" to read on the life-cycle.
It was a splendid work out. I didn't push anything so hard that I can't function today; I know better than that.
I've lost some ground on my hip adductors, but none on the hip abductors. (Hip strength is key to fighting and skiing, so this is one of my regular exercises).
I can't do any tricep stuff without pinging the elbow I injured at A&S, so I quit that. (I've got some light free weights at home I can dig out and I'll do those instead of using gym time).
I also discovered the MTS High Pull Down, which worked my neck, entire back and my deltoids. That was fun! I'll definitely be doing more of that one.
I did the crunch machine, which I have a love-hate relationship with.
I did the sitting Squats, alternating squat sets with calf-raises on the same machine. I piled on a lot more weight than I expected. Maybe it's because I've never used that kind of squat machine before and its pulley mechanism alleviates some of the weight, but I don't remember being able to push 120 lbs. Or maybe my memory is faulty - anything is possible.
When I finished, I scoped out the equipment and wrote up my program for tonight. I'm working on getting a baseline and mixing it up a bit. I'll start with the seated bike (and my book). Then I'm going to work my legs (ext, and curl), lunges, bicep curls, hips (Ab & Ad) and shoulders (military press). I think that should mix it up enough without overworking anything that's tired.
Having a good book to read is one of my gym motivators. I grabbed "Armor" on an impulse because I couldn't find any of the early Honor Harrington bookds or other David Weber books. I read "Armor" over 10 years ago and I forgot how good it is. It's so easy to slip into Felix and be with his "Engine" as he goes into combat mode. I'd been planning to do 30 minutes on the life cylce and ended up doing 40 min plus a 5 min cool down. (while maintaining my 140 bpm)
