Audit rolls to a close
Nov. 16th, 2006 12:08 pmWe survived the audit. yay. My boss seemed to think I did well. I didn't have any big drama, but I had a lot of "connect the dots" to do and was "on" ... It's hard to explain, but it's like a mental obstacle course - you have to provide the right data, be accurate, and explain it in a concise, logical fashion. Not exactly my forte'. I walked out of there feeling like I'd been pressed through a sieve, scooped up and then run through a food processor for kicks. I was totally drained.
Afterwards ... there was the commute home (sucky traffic. thankfully I had Rat to talk to on my cell to keep me awake), feeding the kids, laundry, helping Nicholas w/ homework, helping Evie w/ "homework" (mimicking her big bro - we cut out pictures from a magazine and glued them to a 2nd piece of paper. She felt very grown up in doing "her" homework. heh). No rest for the weary, that's for sure. Da Spouse got home from work right after I put kids to bed. And then, after the 2nd load of laundry was put in the washer, I blew off the gym, I blew off cleaning the bathrooms, and I blew off making a head piece for my Flemish project. I poured a big rum-coke ... mostly rum with a dash of coke because we didn't have much coke ... and detoxed on my favorite (and only) computer game. Whew. Even if it's only electronic, blowing things up is therapeutic.
I'm ready for the ski season. Yes, that's just wishful talk about "escape" from stress, but I'm reading up on which slopes have snow, etc. I'm ready for a mid-week one day blitz ski trip. I'll have to nudge my evil counterparts.
Update: we did good according to the boss. And I presented well. Woot - my first audit. To his eyes, I'm calm and when the auditor got more excited, I got even more serene. Wow! Who would have guessed based on how fired up I get in the engineering meetings? I am so relieved.
