Spa Night at home

threadwalkerAfter a long day of working hard, I was thoroughly exhausted. The hubby, who had the kids for the day, picked up a "home spa kit" for me. I suspect this was at the book store where he was getting the latest Naomi Novik book. Regardless, it was an inspired thought.
After I was "done" for the night (10 pm!), I set up my bathroom for an at-home Spa. It was amazingly relaxing. Bath oils and bath salt. Light candles. CD player w/ Vas (Sunyata). Hot towel for face. Clean towels, robe and body butter waiting for when I was done.
It was also a bit like having a food orgy in the tub, which totally goes against my tweak about keeping food out of the bedroom/bathroom, etc. My home spa included 3 dishes of "food"; a hair treatment from Bikini Boot Camp(1), a home-recipe facial I found on line that incorporated carrots and honey, and my current favorite dessert, which is a bowl of fruit, plain non-fat yogurt and cinamon. Yum!!! Although I had to resist eating the facial, too... carrots and honey are yummy. So I slathered my hair in avocado/egg/oil, slathered my face in carrot/honey, and wrapped it up in hot towels while I submerged in the tub. It was weird. I kept snickering at how "not me" this was.
I think the hair treatment worked pretty good; my hair feels soft and looks glossy and shiny today. The facial needs tweaking. I think I might try it again later this week; I've been reading about the benefits of carrot-based facials for acne prone skin. And the "post soak" was great; drain tub (I'd been grungy to start and it had bits of carrot and avocado in it), refill with clear water, drop in some bath oils. Hop into shower to scrub avocado out of hair, then slip back into clear warm water to enjoy fruit and yogurt to the strains of Vas. I feel so soft and girly today.
(1) Hair treatment: For shine and softness
One overripe avocado (mashed), 1 egg yolk, 4 tbl olive oil. Mash avocado and blend ingredients. Rub into damp hair. Tuck hair under cap. Wash out after 20 minutes.
