I recently had lunch with a friend that I see infrequently. By the time we were done with lunch she committed to doing the Susan G Komen with me next September AND despite her initial refusal, now she's likely going to do the May 4 triathalon, too. We are going to set up some co-motivational training dates where we bike/run near her place and on alternate dates bike/run near mine.

"It's only an 80 min bike ride and a 40 min run... ya know ya could do it... and think what great shape your bum will be in by the time you're done getting ready for it."

Yeah, I can pitch this sprint tri. If only I knew how to use my powers to become rich.

Those tri-training teams look very helpful, but they are too expensive for me. I'm self-motivated and yet I really like the idea of a support group, so I'm now getting all the free newsletters that have training suggestions. Maybe that's why I'm nudging my friends - if you can't find a local, affordable tri team, build one from scratch. lol.

What should we call our fledgling Tri Team?
"Parents on the Run"
"Tri-ed and True"
"Triple Threat"
"Tri Bellas"
"Two Gals who want better bums"
"Bum Racers" (<--- cracking myself up)
"Blister Brigade" (hahahaha!)

Hmm... suggestions welcome. I'll have to ask my (soon to be committed) team member what she thinks.

We will need hats and shirts. Every cult has them. And NO DUES! Do it for fun or don't do it at all.

I'm kind of cracking myself up, but I'm kind of serious, too. If [livejournal.com profile] g0atface and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] want to co-motivate and do some training, I'm up for scheduling stuff.

Heh. A cult even I would support! Am immune (to cult-persuasion), and exempt (from running), however.

Ya know, if we put together some roaming biking/running thing, you could do the biking leg even if you don't want to do the running leg. ... food for thought...

Get out of engineering, and go into sales. You'll pay off your house in the first two months.

You're not a cult leader? ;)

Count me in!

I am always game for joining a non-cult, and training.

I was thinking that it might be neat to come up with bike/run routes in our respective areas and then, as a group, do a group sessionin each area. Like maybe do 1 a month. I know I'd be happy to throw my bike and running shoes into my car and come down on some Saturday or Sunday to do fitness stuff in your neck of the woods.

Or something like that.

And I'm not a fair-weather biker/runner; I'll pretty much bike/run in anything as long as I pack a dry set of clothes to change into.

Thoughts?

That sounds really good. I am willing to travel, and I don't melt in the rain either. When do you want to start?

I don't have a bike route ready yet. I'm going to test drive one the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so after that I should have some sort of hour+ bike route and a run route ready after that. Do you stick to roads or do you go off road as well?

I just popped open my calendar. I have managed to book most of my Saturday afternoons between now and X-mas. I also have a standing 10 am to noon commitment on Sundays.

I prefer biking early because there are fewer people on the road. How do you feel about mornings? I could be down in your neck of the woods by 7am if you like. I'm not saying "7 am or bust", just letting you know that I pop out of bed ready to take over the world by 5:30 on Saturdays. If you prefer afternoon, then most of my Sunday's are open. I'm assuming you have a route since you are the experienced cyclist.

Dates that I am open:
12/1, morning

12/8, morning
12/9 afternoon

12/15 - I have a noon commitment in my area, but if we biked in my area between 9 and 11, this would work.
12/16 - afternoon.

12/22, morning
12/23, afternoon

Let me know if any of these work for you. Wheee! I'm so excited.

The 9th in the afternoon should work. I have a thing in SF at 4pm, so we could go somewhere near you? Otherwise, the 22nd-23rd weekend might also work. I am not sure what is going on that weekend.
We can make a route anywhere, but there are some nice bike paths down here.
I am super excited too!

Cool.

I've got the 9th blocked out. More planning via e-mail?
