It's not a meme, it's a you-you.
If you ask I will...
1. Tell you why I friended you.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
7. In return, you must post this in your LJ.
FYI - I am notoriously frank.
Edit: Egads! This is a lot of work and time consuming. I need to get cracking on my day job. Further posts later.. as in "after I'm done earning my keep"

2. A River, ever flowing, ever changing yet constant and strong
3. I like how much I've learned from you, I am blessed to know you.
4. Hehe last New Years when you texted us thinking you were texting your sister :)
5. Can't think of anything to ask, I may have to get back to you on this!
6. I enjoy all of them but I love the one of your daughter being a free spirit :)
7. already did :)

Date: 2007-11-21 10:31 pm (UTC)1. Ditto. Scott is the common thread here.
2. Teddy Bears
3. Your courage to accept responsibility. Not everyone can do that.
4. I was going to choose the text message! Now I need to choose something else... Discovering that we have so much similar childhood baggage. How unexptected! And frighteningly delightful. lol.
5. Do you think Scott's gaming is frustrating because you would prefer him to NOT play or do you think it's frustrating because you don't play and (unless you get a 2nd pc) can't play together?
6. I like your icon. But you only have one, so there's no other choices. heh.

Date: 2007-11-21 10:41 pm (UTC)5. It's not that I'd prefer him not to game, it's part of who he is, I just get jealous at times b/c sometimes I get all girly and want to have some attention too. Things have been much better since he declared Thursday nights movie night, it helps us stay connected, love it! I also would like to try coH with him sometime but only have one PC at the moment so that nixes that one lol
6. hmm well I'll have to put some more icons up then :)
2. teddy bears, why doesn't that surprise me ? LOL
4. we do have lots in common baggage wise, it's nice to see someone else learning from that baggage instead of hanging onto it and actually blaming life challenges on that baggage instead of trying to learn from it etc.
3. never thought of myself as being couragous , way on earth did I just falsh to Samwise and Frodo from LOTR? Samwise the Brave..*giggles* (ohh chelle needs a nap :) )

Date: 2007-11-21 10:41 pm (UTC)To keep up with you without sending a million e-mail a week. This truly is more time-efficient.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
Motorcycles. Red Tail Hawks. Laughing around a camp fire.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
You are very insightful and not afraid to share your insights, even if the recipient is embarrassed. When we talk about stuff and you make an honest observation, even about how you perceive my motives, it gives me good food for thought. You are also great at listening to feedback. You are a ton of fun to bounce things off of.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
There are sooo many. Here are two that not many others got to share in: 1) Discovering Sgropphino together in Venice on the canal. 2) I giggle when I recall you laying on the floor in the airport in Milan, reading your book, and the security gentlemen slowly wandering up and circling you, like sharks in their dark suits. Then you got escorted away and got the pat-down while they went through your luggage. Your comment later, "I told them to watch out for the outer pockets on my luggage, it's where I put my dirty briefs." I died laughing.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
Hmm... Tough because we have shared so much. Which of your hobbies comes closest to defining how you see yourself? Which would break your heart to let go of?
6. The "flame" one where the guy sets himself on fire. I want to steal it sooo badly. lol

Date: 2007-11-21 11:18 pm (UTC)Did we friend before or after Erinwood? Stupid memory - I forget so much. I know I wanted to get to talk to you and start to get to know you when I heard you were going to Erinwood. I move slowly in this department and have to force myself to step out of my comfort zone in order to meet new people. And what made me curious was that a batch of people that I like and trust were, in turn, doing things with you and introducing you as a friend. So I guess you're well connected. lol.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
Dancing. And being in stealth mode - I see and notice what you're up to even if you think no one notices you. You'd make a great spy.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
You are very brave about meeting new people.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
Talking to you at Rat and Stacey's house. Watching you take pictures at Erinwood and trying to bring you water to find out everyone else beat me to it.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
Will you teach me to dance on the eric at night when no one is watching? oh... I'm supposed to ask about you, not ask for a favor from you... hmm... What's your favorite booze? Any hard liquor preferences?
6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
I like the Firefly ones and my fav of those is Kaylee w/ the strawberry.

Date: 2007-11-21 11:39 pm (UTC)As for dancing like no one is watching... booze helps, but seizing that devil-may-care moment and riding it is key. I just go with it. Feel free to join me.

Laughter. you are always laughing.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
You are always laughing. And you have integrity; integrity in your parenting, in your career, in your projects, etc. You do the right thing even when it's not the easy thing.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
Soooo many... Super hot A&S in napa and fleeing the site to see "The Devil Wears Prada". And the infamous soiled cement at the church in Sac when we went up and scrubbed away the mess; the scrubbing and the post-scrub BBQ was lots of fun.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
Tough because I just ask you to your face any time I have a question. There are no long-dormant questions. How about: Where would you like to explore wrt costuming for the SCA? In terms of doing research and creating something that closely reflects the research. And how much effort do you think you can put into that?
6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
This one. The hamster.

Date: 2007-11-27 06:48 am (UTC)so I'll be looking for a piccie that looks like me, and reproducing it to the best of my ability. I'm assuming I'll have to buy or barter for any accessories or embroidery, since I have no tools or talent for metalworking, and I can't see fine details well enough to do real embroidery. Because I'd really like for people to look at me and say 'you look just like that picture of X'

2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
The smell of curry.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
You are not embarrassed to be you. You've been very open about your past and frank about your strengths and your challenges. But you aren't afraid of them. I like that a lot. It makes you very comfortable to be around.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
I was your arts minister when you were princess. You were stunningly beautiful and at the same time distant and untouchable in your German dresses. But my new fav memory is hanging w/ you and at A&S.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
Why did you quit wearing renaissance clothes and start wearing Indian?
Do you believe in falling in love?
What are you wearing for 12th night?
6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.
The orange veil over your face. Very creative and artsy.

Date: 2007-11-28 01:08 am (UTC)A&S was fun.
5.a. I'm still all about the wool and brocade if it is not a million degrees out. After my one trip to Pennsic I decided there had to be better clothes to wear in the summer. So now I suffer from what we part-time Indians call multiple persona disorder.
5.b. Hell yes!
5.c. My revamped Investiture dress. If I had more time (say an extra month or two) I'd do something with my snazzy new brocade but I have to sew for Conall first and I haven't even started that yet.
6. And all by accident. The straw content of the air that day was uncomfortably high so Ysa and I hid under the veil.

Date: 2007-11-22 01:41 am (UTC)Okay I'll answer this but it seems silly. As if I could pick one memory or one association...
1. Tell you why I friended you.
Let's disregard the LJ-implied nature of this question. I decided to befriend you (1994) because you and J seemed like nice folks. So I set out to get to know you better under the disguise of the hubby's 30th b-day party. Which I invited you to even though we barely knew you. And you came. Then I schemed the Italian workshop as a vehicle to get to know you better. I think our friendship grew out of mutual interests and getting along and enjoying each other's company.
Yup, I can spot the good ones. And now you can't get enough of me. I know, I know... it's hard to be my friend; I'm like dark chocolate - full of good-for-you-stuff like anti-oxidants, probably not good in large doses, and naughty in a decadent way.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
sunlight washing across the savannah, the wind moving the grass, green lioness eyes peering from the shadows.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
You think outside the box. You challenge convention. You are smart and wiley.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
There are TONS. Parties, celebrations, house boating, Italy, costuming, the strawberry daquiries made from fresh strawberry jam at your place cuz we were out of strawberries and too drunk to care, playing Catan on your bed at my baby shower (and kicking your butt!). And oddly, yesterday, the memory of you visiting me during my Laurel vigil popped into my head. And earlier today I was reading someones LJ and I have a mental picture of you helping w/ the list field back when we were on Chad&K's principality court like 18 years ago.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
ummm.... err... When are you planning to take over the world? Can I be one of your generals?
6. Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.

To keep an eye on you. I have successfully apprenticed some fire-brands and you blog sufficiently that this is a good spot to keep up with your schemes. (This comment applies to fighter-chik, too.) This is also easier than "how ya doing?" I can log on and find out how you are doing.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.
pine trees enshrouded in a cool mist with the sound of water in the background.
3. Tell you something I like about you.
Generoscity. Bravery. Can-do attitude. You rock.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
Other than puking at your hand-fasting? The kirtle draping workshop in SF. I have strong memories and emotions wrt you at that. Watching you hold your own in shark-infested waters.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
If you were going to get to keep only one Dickens novel, which would it be? (no compilations... pick a story or two)

During my period of caring for Collegium, I knew I wanted you involved because I'd already twigged to your voice talents. You also always look stylin' - I'm pretty sure I've told you that. LJ has been a great opportunity to get to know you better. I hope at some point in the future that we can dance together, too.
2. Associate you with something - fandom, a song, a colour, a photo, etc.

3. Tell you something I like about you.
You are so passionate about your creativity. You aren't careless, you don't take it for granted. You nurture, attend it, hone it, and let it out of the box. I love to read about all the project you are up to.
4. Tell you a memory I have of you.
All gothi-goodness at events. Singing for the gatherings. You have great presence and I think there is an art/skill involved in your bearing and how you project that goes beyond your (amazing) vocal talents.
5. Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.
Were you afraid of getting your surgery? If so, how did you overcome that in order to move forward and do it? Do you have any doubts that it was the right choice?

Date: 2007-11-27 07:29 am (UTC)The rest of the time: the productivity hangup I struggle with constantly is a simple one: getting started. I have a strong tendency to buy all the materials, make all the plans, announce my intentions of doing something and then..... it...... just..... sits....... there, in a box or a heap, for weeks and weeks while I try to find time, motivation, physical and mental energy simultaneously.
Writing and computer and drawing stuff are likeliest to get done, because once I get started on them I am oblivious to the rest of the world until something actively distracts me. It's worst with things that require ungluing my eyes from books/magazines/computers and focusing them on my handwork instead. Having company or someone to talk to helps a lot, because it means I start something and keep working away at it for the duration of the visit.
As for the userpic: this is my nomination for Absolute Silliest Detail from a Renaissance Painting. Lorenzo Lotto painted an altarpiece showing several saints, one of them St. Lucy, whose symbol is a pair of eyes (supposedly hers were ripped out, eeeuuuwwww). Various painters have tried various ways of showing them -- on a plate, for instance, or held in her hands. Lotto put them in this little tiny detail way down by the saint's feet resting on a handy bit of cloud. I *think* they are supposed to be in a dish, but due to the perspective (we are below the dish, looking up) he had to paint them kind of hovering in the air instead.
Either that, or he'd seen a space alien. :)

5. You're pretty open, so I'm going to ask. If this is not the venue, then maybe you can share with me later on. We've shared our childhood stories with each other and have our own baggage train of drama, trauma, and injuries. Do you have residual stress when dealing w/ your mom & siblings during the holidays? 3. Your anger can be deep and dark, but once you get past the initial upsetness in something, you have an amazing ability to bounce back and see things from the other side.
4. Laying in sunbeams at my mom's house and reading comics. Having my ear drums blasted by your trumpet. Playing magic the night before your wedding.
5. Feel free to ignore or talk to me later. In fact, it might be the kind of thing where you percolate and then we put our feet up around a fire and talk about how we get through stuff. Here goes...
You have been through a LOT of life. You've lived closer to death than most poeple I know. Despite the odds, you scrape by and come out fighting. There are times when Krones gets you down or the medical regimen gets you down and I think that it would be freaky if you weren't periodically overwhelmed by the life you lead. My dark times have never threatened my own life, but they have threatened my sanity. My faith in a higher power has been very instrumental in getting me through those times. I wonder if you have developed a faith in a higher power. We talked about this waaaaaay back in the day and at the time you claimed to be agnostic. 20 years later, I wonder if you've changed your stance. And when I say faith, I'm referring to faith in something other than quantifiable science, but it doesn't have to me "god" in the regular sense of the word.
Food for thought.
6. Do you use any other icons? I like this one best.

Service.... Yes, I have done a bunch of it and continued even when I hadn't gotten awards for it (It was 10 years in before getting an AoA). When they offered me the Pelican, before I said yes I actually asked "Do I still get to do stuff?" Jade laughed and said yes. Then I said Yes. I still do stuff without getting caught doing it (which was easier to do when I wasn't as well known.) Its actually kind of fun when I don't get caught helping.
