Fitness blah-g

Look who's bored and lurking on LJ... and I have cabin fever really bad. Ugh. And it's raining... blah.. I bet there will be GREAT snow as soon as it clears up. I may burn a vacation day next week and go inspect the slopes for myself.... The walls are closing in on me.
1. Pure Motivation:
The boss shared about his mud-slides over vacation. I piped up w/ "now you can start training for the tri and burn those calories." He's all excited and has already started swimming and running. Yarg! And he's EXCITED... I'm doomed if I don't get cracking... I feel the competitive juices release in my system and my heart rate kicks up when I think about it. I'm convinced he's going to kick my butt if I don't keep up intense training. Athletically, men perform at a higher point than women do.
In the meantime, I have discovered the Weight Watchers online has message boards and one of them caught my eye... the fitness one. Within the fitness one are some topic specific threads (do we call them threads? thread_walker is confused) on triathalons. yay! I have found a tribe that I may belong to. Or who might be able to periodically answer questions, which will meet my needs just fine.
2. Tri Gear:
I got good advice on a heart rate monitor that could survive submerging. The described "accidental immersion of up to 1 meter for 30 minutes" is NOT encouraging. However, I got feedback from actual owners. yay! I'm soooo excited.
3. Tri-Training tool:
On one of the WW threads they have the monthly ironman challenge. The challenge is to do the equivalent of an ironman in a month. Super motivating. So far in January;
Swim: 0
Bike: 5.2
Run: 3.65
Yeah, I'm a slacker. I've only been in the gym 1x this month. But I'm going to keep at it and track my mileage all month.
4. Workout on, 1/1/07
Run: 35 min, 3.65 mi, 2% incline, HR = 155+
Bike: 25 min, 5.2 mi, 90+ rpm, HR = 135-45
Hammer Curl
Bicep Curl
Standing Tri Ext
incline fly (woot! a bit of vanity, but I love the way the muscles flex and look so cut when my arms are trying to break free from my shoulder sockets and fall to the ground.)
Arnold Press
Abs (owies!)
crunch
twists (balance on tail bone, feet raised; twist to right, then twist to left, then decline back while extending legs, then return to set position. ugh! barf-o-rama!)
heal raises
I get to join Recovering Slacker Club. My abs are very sore and my legs have certain aches that tell me I was pushing it beyond the "healthy challenge" zone and into the "get hurt if you don't back off zone".
