Oh Hawt Damn,
Dita can Jam,
Gonna party, 'til the AM
Congrats to the winner of the women's marathon, Constantina Tomescu-Dita of Romania. 2nd oldest in the race at 38 years, mother of a teen, AND lost 3 months of training this year due to injury, which all made her an unlikely winner. She rocked the race with guts, drive and an outstanding run. I'm sure her victory makes a year of pain and the scorcher at Athens (2004) seem like the distant past. FINALLY 24 hr fitness had the TVs turned to Olympics and I was running during her last hour. It was awesome to be running while watching the Olympic marathon! So inspiring!
(and congrats to Romania, too, I'm sure they're proud as punch)
My thoughts to Radcliffe: You're only 34. Wait 4 years and, like Dita, rock the world with your come-back.
Also, Snoopy-Dance to Dara Torres who got silver in individual last night. In your face, you 16 year old punks!
(I'm feeling all feisty on behalf of moms and the 35+ crowd everywhere! We all rawk, whether we are Olympic athletes or just holding it together at our 9-5's.)
And more kudos to Michael Phelps, who's victories are all over the news. In YOUR FACE, THORPE! Hell Yeah.. we know who's gonna party like a rock star all the way to the bank!
But I'm still gloating for the older women. They won't go home with 8 new gold medals, but they freaking rocked!
And guess what I'm singing?
"Oh Hawt Damn...."
(Edit: during my ride today I decided they were Wildcats and not Cougars; fierce and on the prowl for personal excellence, no boyz. So I changed the header.)

Date: 2008-08-17 05:31 pm (UTC)It was a fun day wasn't it? I found myself enthralled and watching far more TV yesterday than I ever do. It's so nice to see those women do so well, and well, what can be said about Michael other than WOW, you were certainly blessed with all the physical attributes you needed to win, and the spunk to keep at it.
I think the Para-Olympics are even more impressive, because those people fight past losses that would be devastating to most of us. Yay for spunk!

Date: 2008-08-17 06:01 pm (UTC)And Dara is TOTALLY my hero. I want to be like her when I grow up! ;-p Did you catch that she's was the oldest woman to earn a gold medal in swimming -- at her LAST olympics 8 years ago!! I love it. I wouldn't call either of them cougars, though -- I didn't see any boy toys attached.

Date: 2008-08-17 09:03 pm (UTC)I caught about 10 minutes of Trampoline yesterday afternoon. You'd never guess, but a sport spawned from gymnastics features Actual Full-Grown Women, with the top contender a 33-year-old Romanian.
I now know what sport I want to start studying ASAP!
