Things on my...

Super N tried to drown today. We were at a pool party and in a fit of overconfidence he used the kick board to paddle out to deep water. I was sitting by the pool and watching both kids splash; I didn't realize until after this that the pool depth was unmarked. Super N pushed the kick board away and lunged towards a fancy water fall at the edge of the pool and since he was too far away, he went under. He bobbled up briefly and then went under a second time. I was in the water and jack-knifing off the bottom of the pool in less than 10 seconds, pulling him out. I don't think my brain fully absorbed what had happened before I launched into the pool. In fact, no one else registered what was going on until I pulled him out and it hit the other guests that I was fully clothed and dripping wet with my boy in my arms. The cool part: After everyone calmed down and I changed, I encouraged him to get back in and he did. Then he bragged to all the other kids about how he almost drowned but his mommy was there to save him.
2. .. desk..
I have to fill in for my boss this week. I'm nervous. I filled in for him on Thursday and it was bumpy. I'm becoming the mad Queen of delegation and CYA email. Hell yeah!
3. .. sewing machine..
I had Friday off (all I can say is "crazy German company" finally working for me). I finished one work skirt and a work blouse on Friday. I have a nice chocolate brown coat cut out (mundane, not historical). As soon as I get half a dozen hooks/eyes in place, I'll have refurbished one of my 15th century dresses, so I'll have 2 camping outfits. woot.
4. .. embroidery hoop..
linen and silk that's shaping up to a pelican. I love the sensation of drawing silk filament through linen... I'm a fiber geek and it's really sexy. I know the recipient prefers silver to gold, but it's going to need to have both. I had a vision direct from the muse. If I can pull it off, it will be freaking awesome. And he won't get it until after I've "shown" it and photographed the snot out of it.
5. .. "chalk board"..
I've started coaching some people through making costumes for themselves. It just reaffirms how much I enjoy teaching. And it's a whole lot of fun to see them light up when pretty stuff shapes up.
6. ..plate..
prime rib and homemade strawberry short cake.. nom nom nom.
7. ..Easter..
On Sunday at 6 am I rolled out of bed and, bed-head and all, raced to the store to get goodies for 2 Easter baskets. How in the world did I leave that for the last minute? There was a plan... what happened? "My" regular checker was there and he greeted me by name (how freaking embarrassing... yoga pants, pirate patterned vans and hair flying...). Turns out the candy section was almost totally picked over. I found the last 2 hollow chocolate bunnies stashed in a corner. I filled baskets and plastic eggs, I stashed them in the yard, and went from Defcon 5 to "searching for caffeine". Suddenly at 7am the sprinklers went off and I'm scrambling outside barefoot racing around lawn and through sprinklers to restash Easter goodies in spots not subject to sprinklers. The crazy things we do for our kids...
7. .. mind..
"Life is the unexplored journey." That little gem popped out of my mouth at work last week. A wiley manager was working on resisting my guile... apparently my comment was so unexpected, it was like one of Aphrodite's golden apples during the foot race and he was distracted. But I've been thinking about that a lot. Things are always happening around us and imagining that we have control is exactly what it sounds like: imagination. I think we osscilate between "balance" and "imbalance". Right now I think I'm in balance, but mostly I think it's because I gauge the limitations of each day and make my plans accordingly. I can't plan too far ahead and I try to not overplan myself. I can't do as many things as I'd like and I don't have the energy I used to have. I'm bummed that I haven't been on my bike since my accident, but that's my current limitation. Instead of focusing on what's beyond my reach, I'm focusing on what's in reach and maximizing that. This week my boss is out and I'm covering for him. My only project deadlines are self-imposed. So this week I'll be focused on surviving at work, working out everyday, going to bed on time, and reassembling my library (piles of books everywhere right now). Wednesday I'll go to practice with my dynamic duo. This coming weekend I have to work 12 hours on Saturday and again on Sunday, so my weekend "plans" are based on assuming I'll be wiped out and not up for much beyond kid-snuggling, watching my favorite DVDs and falling asleep on the sofa. I can't plan for more than that this week.
