When one wants to rock a mini,

What kind of undies?
Tights - yes or no?
thigh-highs or thigh-high "socks"?
belts or other waist-stuff?

I was thinking tall, striped, pirate socks. But I have a unique sense of fashion. Curious minds who are shopping tonight want to know. I've already got super-comfy platform boots that are almost calf-high, a metallic tank top and cut-away wool coat that's long in back.

I'm super-curious to hear from those of you who "go out" now as well as those who wore this when it was in style the first time around.

back when they were first in style, tights were the way to go. Kept you modest when you sat down, kept you warm when you were walking around. I'd say try on a couple of different things and go with the one that's most 'you'.

I like tights, but I tend to wear tights all the time, all year round (just like the way they look). Belt depends on the top -- longer tops tend to look good w/a belt to cinch them & define the waist a bit, but shorter tops not as much. I also love the look of a short skirt & tall boots, but that's more of a fall/winter look than summer.

Ditto on the trying different things on :-)

You can do what ever you want. The possibilities are endless. I used to hear nylons, and knee high boots. Or nylons, knee socks and platforms. Bare legs and hippie sandals went with long denim skirts. But I went to High School in Sonoma County hippie ville. Aldith has a whole different experiance as she went to High School in Richmond.

Wow, this conversation brings back so many memories.

I was a cocktail waitress for years in the (cough cough) 80s: Black mini with black lace stockings (seam up the back) seemed to be a big hit ;-)

You have a sparking sense of style, dear threadwalker. Try out a few combinations and wear what you like best. It will be perfect. With your height, patterned tights would be a definite eye-catcher.

If you're going to do it, go mod. Mini, tall boots, etc. I hope you're not talking about for work...

You know, I think you should trust your fashion sense more (I don't think you would buy something that you would feel embarassed in), but on the other hand, you should probably go shopping for clothes a little more often, and then this wouldn't seem like a big deal, and you could leverage more of what you already own. I bet you might wish that you had a wider selection of clothes for work. Of course to justify those clothes you should go out more!

Colored tights are the most classic. However, in 1965-6 when we started wearing minis, fishnets or windowpanes worn with white "go-go" boots was the most cool look.
