triathalon:

Different levels - looking at "long course"; 1.5 mi swim; 18-ish mile bike; 13 mi run

Escape from Alcatraz - you have to qualify for it by doing one of the noted "Escape from" triathalons. Or get lucky by doing one of the qualifying tri-s and being randomly drawn. Fat chance. Move along, nothing to see here.

Wildflower (Monterey) looks close enough. What's with the recommended camping thing? Need to do more homework

Water temp: 55-65
Should do Tri-Camp in March of 2008. Register in December of 2007

Tri camp notes to bring a wet suit. This seems to be the deal for Nor-cal stuff. Eek - buy? rent? Very expensive. probably rent. Looked at event pics - all the swimmers had wet suits. gah! brrr! ick. oh well. Don't want to go too far from home, so wet-suit it is.

Will need a bike by March 2007 plus biking safety equip.

food for thought.

Swimming laps tomorrow night.
Did a mile on treadmill tonight. Woot woot... yeah, pales in comparison to the 13 mi of a tri, BUT I only quit cuz I was out of time, not because my internal whine-o-bot was making any noise. Current fitness plan goes through end of August, so no major tweaks between now and then. Just replace curent cardio w/ swimming 1x a week. Slowly increase running distance/time to eclipse elliptical work outs.

Need to find local 10K and 1/2 marathon for October and December/January.

OMG!!! I'm actually planning this. I am a freak. beddie by time before I start researching any other mad schemes.

hey, I know a little about the Wildflower Triathlon. A long time ago (before kid, even) a friend of a friend did the Wildflower Triathlon. We went down to support her, and ended up as volunteers. This was a long time ago, but here's what I remember. The weather was warm - not too hot, but not foggy or anything like that. I didn't see a lot of wetsuits - a lot of people were wearing those nylon onesies that you could swim, run and bike in. More people had trouble with the swim than the running or biking, but I think that's because they started as runners, not swimmers. They were doing an ultra marathon the next day, so the ultra guys were doing the tri as a warmup for the ultra. Those guys probably had maybe .5% body fat. Completely cut. We didn't camp, (daytripped) and I don't know where or if people were camped. That's my general impression.
