Okay, I'll go to bed. ... In just a minute. I'm checking LJ. Haven't had peeked in a few days.

Life in the wilds of suburbia ...

Post surgery life has improved immensely. There will be no biological updates because some of it is just plain icky. However, F is finally - as of yesterday- eating most normal foods again. Hurrah! And he's sleeping good. Hurrah!

Trick-or-Treating was fun. Littlest was yelling "wait for me" as the bigger kids (4-5 yr olds) raced ahead. I think it's cute that she tries to keep up. Keep pushing sweetie pie - no one's ever going to wait when you're an adult. She was so charming when she said "t'ick-or-t'eat", she scored more goodies than the rest of the kids. And when she said "tank ooo", she sometimes got more. That just cracks me up - the kid who will be allowed to eat the least amount of candy getting the biggest haul. But boy did she ever trudge up the last hill! Plus, she would not let me carry her pumpkin bucket of candy - nope, she had quite the grip. Batman-Boy had the best batman costume we saw. We've gotten quite the crowd for trick-or-treating.

Wednesday night I stayed up late and draped two ladies. That was nice because I think draping is the sort of skill that attrophies if you don't practice. And each new drape represents a new set of challenges, so the "challenge me" part of my brain is always engaged.

Work is busy. That seems to be the ongoing status quo. Whatever happened to dorking-around time? Checking LJ? Shooting e-mail to friends? On the plus side, I really like my job and I have an awesome boss. Somehow through attrition I've become the most "familiar with our tools" person on our team. The new team members have higher titles/grades, but I'm the one that knows where everything is. I feel weird because I've deliberately sought to blend in and NOT be a go-to person; being a go-to person merely made me a target at other firms. But now I'm helping to orient (perfectly nice) co-workers, which is okay, but after 3+ years of being "water", I need to become "earth".

Today I got to take a day-long workshop on "Dealing with Difficult People with Tact and Skill". Stop laughing at me. It turns out that I'm MUCH more tactful and diplomatic and aware than your typical engineer/thinker. And I surprised the presenter, which is always fun. I took him completely by surprise when he tried to demo the "get in someone's face and invade their comfort zone". Heh, heh, heh. You could say he "blinked" first.

At the end of the class we were discussing that it's important to know where your buttons are and to not let people get under your skin when they try to push them. To make his case Mr. Presenter said that he could push the buttons of any of us. I was immediately curious - did he really know my buttons? But did I really want to have such a conversation in a group? I'm curious, but not foolhardy. Would you believe one fool challenged him! And it was the overly sensitive one who really, really cares about what people think of her. Could you draw a bigger bulls eye around yourself? He sat there and picked her apart and she was amazed that she was so easy to read. (roll my eyes).

Tomorrow is a day-long workshop on gold work. I don't recall the exact technique, but I'll be very excited once I wake up and make coffee. I had to get a 10-inch hoop today. 10-inches??!!!! It looks so huge, but there it is! There will be only 5 of us, so I expect it will be very focused.

Fashion Show: Mostly on track

Sunday is the fashion show. I fininshed the catalog today and made copies - just need to find my beloved long-armed stapler. Too bad I couldn't do them in color. Ah well. All but two pictures come from websites and I referenced all the websites, so if someone really wants to see it in color, they can use up the ink in their own printer. I was digging out dresses tonight. Apparently I've been a bit pre-occupied with making dark red dresses based on the art of the 1470's. I have three that are all practically the same shade of dark red, same cut, and similar sleeves except that one is wool, one is silk, and one is linen. I hadn't even remembered I had the wool one until I was digging through the closet and I swear, I was taken completely by surprise. But now that I'm looking at it, I remember making it for June Crown. I'm so silly. I think I spent so many years saying "I'm going to make a dark red, 1470 cotta" that I had to do it 3x before my brain would believe it actually happened.

So I've got all these dresses spread out on the sofa. There are 8 dresses here, 1 coat, 4 chemises and one flannel "demi chemise" that I wear when it's cold enough (fuzzy side in since it feels so nice on the skin). I think one of my apprentices has one 1488 ensemble. One 1530 Lotto is packed away. There's a few disassembled dresses upstairs. I have the farsetto I made for myself for A&S, although I have no idea where the hose got to! The problem with the math has to do with chemises. I need 4 because four of the dresses will be modeled; of my four, one totally sucks and I keep reminding myself to burn it. D'Salai needs 3 chemises for the stuff she's having modeled, but she only has 2. I can't find my silk one, which would solve my problems. So we're short at least one, maybe two chemises. Tonight I bought a bolt of 36-inch and it's currently being shrunk. Tomorrow night I will make a few chemises with my boundless energy. heh, - boundless - that was humor!

I got bit really hard by the sewing bug this week. I wonder if it's the weather? Or if I'm suffering withdrawl? But now I've got so many things I want to make and very little time to massage in my schedule for this.

But for now, beddy-by.

It went really well.

THEBLK borrowed a chemise. I whipped one out Saturday night. I found the silk one. In the end, I had a few extras, which meant we dressed up some of the loittering, unsuspecting volunteers. heh, heh, heh.

But I was super-organized. I had a bag to go with each dress. The bag was labelled and inside it had belt, head piece, chemise, sleeves, pins, lacing and a list of those things. On the sheet with the list was the sequence of getting dressed. I was trying to cut down on the chaos and it really helped.

Too bad we didn't manage to get your wedding ensembles in it. Andrew's in particular would have been a unique example of piecing.

Now I need to put all that stuff back where it goes. Hmm. I wonder when I'll get that done? I really tore up the sewing room to find everything. Now I need to put it away so I don't lose it all.
